Associate Corporate Counsel

Los Angeles

ABOUT GOODR

We create and sell active eyewear for anyone. No Slip. No Bounce. All Polarized. All Fun. Interested in joining our team? Keep reading.

OUR VALUES: We have two core values: Fun & Authenticity.

  • FUN = Being sh*tty isn’t fun. Agreed? Taking pride in your work, finding joy in being GREAT, and celebrating wins… and losses. Now, that’s fun!
  • AUTHENTICITY = Focusing on being authentic over being liked. (Next-level guru stuff. Count it.)

Fun Fact: We do not allow email to be sent internally. Carrier pigeons only. JK, we use Slack.

AUTONOMY: We practice autonomy, empowerment, and accountability so that every team member can be in control of their own life.

  • HYBRID WORKING: This role is required to be in the Inglewood office every Tuesday and Thursday with the occasional third day thrown in.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: We have an all-company learning program so that we’re constantly leveling up our skills.

SUSTAINABILITY: We think Earth’s pretty rad. That’s why we take action wherever possible to limit our impact on the planet.

  • 1% FOR THE PLANET MEMBER: 1% of goodr’s annual sales go directly to environmental organizations.
  • CARBON NEUTRAL: In 2019, goodr became a 100% carbon neutral company.

Fun Fact: goodr celebrates every Earth Day by releasing limited-edition sunglasses with frames made from 100% recycled materials—and the packaging is 100% sustainable, too!

ABOUT THE ROLE

Your day may start with someone from the content team asking you if we can dress up a dog like Pac-Man for a product photo shoot. (The answer is “no”, but you’ll recommend a clever alternative, and everyone will high-five like in one of those stock photo images. Teamwork!)  You’ll then move on to a meeting with the sales team to discuss your comments on the vendor agreement with a new nationwide retailer.   The afternoon will consist of a few negotiations with sports leagues about licensing their IP for inclusion in the 2027 sunglasses launch.

Ok. Maybe all that won’t happen in one day, but you get an idea of the variety of ground you’ll cover.

That said, for juxtaposition, here are a few things that will not be part of your role:

  • A Sisyphean treadmill of billable hour requirements
  • Getting calls at 3pm on a Sunday asking if you wouldn’t mind coming into the office to finish off that memo so we can file it at 7am on Monday
  • Constant references to the Bluebook

So if you’re ready to provide solid legal and business counseling, come be goodr’s Associate Corporate Counsel, working with our In-House Counsel to make all of goodr’s wildest dreams come true (or the best legally approved version anyway)!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal counsel to our teams and leaders on a variety of legal matters, including privacy, regulatory, and employment issues, balancing risk mitigation with operational needs and growth objectives
  • Work collaboratively with our In-House Counsel to properly triage and complete legal requests
  • Help build, organize, and scale legal operations by developing policies, templates, training materials, intake processes, and best practices that enable the business to move efficiently and compliantly
  • Support all departments by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements with external partners, customers, and vendors
  • Spend a significant portion of your time drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of agreements including vendor agreements, licensing agreements, marketing partnerships, NDAs, retailer/customer agreements, and other commercial contracts that support the business
  • Support ongoing compliance efforts and help identify potential legal and regulatory risks
  • Assist with corporate transactions, strategic partnerships, and other business initiatives through legal research, diligence, and contract support
  • Support the development and improvement of policies, procedures, and operational processes that help manage legal and business risk
  • Coordinate and work with external legal counsel on a variety of matters
  • Communicate complex legal concepts in a practical, business-friendly manner
  • This role is part of the Office of the CEO and will report directly to the In-House Counsel
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Juris Doctorate Degree (bonus points for a focus on Dinosaur Law… we may be looking to open a certain type of theme park, no expense spared)
  • 4+ years of experience in corporate law or counseling companies (we count time spent as a law firm associate advising business clients, In-House roles, or any combination)
  • Naturally curious with sound legal judgment and a practical approach to problem solving
  • Experience supporting consumer products, retail, e-commerce, lifestyle, or CPG businesses is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of one or more compliance areas relevant to these environments is a plus. (You don't need to be an expert in all of these, tell us where your strengths are.)
  • Strong communicator who lives into collaboration
  • Driven by personal growth and thrives in an environment of constant feedback
  • Is proactive and an independent problem solver!
  • Enjoys building systems, simplifying processes, and making legal support more scalable.
  • Must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in California; OR admitted and in good standing in another U.S. jurisdiction and willing to register as Registered In-House Counsel with the State Bar of California within 180 days of hire under California Rule of Court 9.46. (No current requirement to sit for the CA bar exam, so long as your RIHC registration is maintained.)

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

  • Alcohol or other substance use disorder (not currently using drugs illegally)
