About the job
Goods & Services is looking for a Tech Lead (Event-Driven Architecture) to define and guide the platform’s event-driven architecture, establishing scalable patterns, standards, and technical direction across multiple engineering teams. This role will drive key architectural decisions, ensure consistency across services and integrations, and enable teams to build reliable solutions against a stable, scalable foundation.
What you’ll do:
- Own and guide architecture decisions across multiple engineering workstreams, ensuring consistency with the overall event-driven platform strategy.
- Establish and govern event-driven architecture standards, including event infrastructure, schema management, messaging patterns, error handling, and standardized event structures.
- Define and maintain domain event contracts and schemas to ensure consistency, compatibility, and scalability across current and future platform capabilities.
- Partner with DevOps and engineering teams to define production rollout strategies, including traffic-ramp criteria, validation requirements, and stabilization periods.
- Guide feature-flag and incremental deployment strategies, ensuring services can be introduced, validated, and rolled back safely without disruptive releases.
- Review and govern schema and architectural changes, ensuring compatibility, quality, and appropriate testing before changes are introduced across dependent services.
What you’ll need:
- Deep hands-on experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures on AWS, with experience using services such as EventBridge, SQS, Step Functions, and Schema Registry.
- Proven experience leading incremental, feature-flagged migrations and modernization of legacy systems, using strategies such as the strangler-fig pattern while maintaining system availability.
- Strong understanding of domain-driven event modeling, event contracts, and schema governance/versioning across multiple teams and services.
- Experience providing technical leadership across multiple engineering teams or workstreams, including mentoring engineers, resolving cross-team dependencies, and unblocking complex technical challenges.
- Strong experience with architectural governance and technical standards, including reviewing design changes, establishing engineering patterns, and ensuring consistency across distributed services.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native architectures, including asynchronous communication, service dependencies, fault tolerance, and reliable message processing.
- Experience designing and integrating APIs and backend services within event-driven and service-oriented architectures.
- Strong technical communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to communicate architectural trade-offs and align engineers and stakeholders around technical direction.
- Experience designing safe deployment and rollout strategies, including feature flags, traffic ramping, validation criteria, and rollback approaches.
Nice to have:
- Experience in lending, financial services, fintech, or risk management.
