The Gradient Learning Program offers schools a whole-student system to help schools realize their vision for whole-student growth. Our whole student system is a curated and integrated suite of research-based tools and resources, including rigorous curricula, teacher and leader resources and trainings, whole student assessments and data displays, as well as ongoing, customized coaching for school leadership teams. The program is utilized by hundreds of schools across the U.S. to fuel their whole student work.Along is a free, interactive video journal that helps teachers guide their students to reflect and grow all year long--whether they’re back in the classroom or learning remotely. Along brings skill-building resources and efficient communication into a dedicated space where every student feels seen and heard.

Director, Data & Insights Product


Position Overview

The Gradient Learning Program offers schools a Whole Student System to help schools realize their vision for Whole Student growth. The Whole Student System is a curated and integrated suite of research-based tools and resources, including rigorous curricula, teacher and leader resources and training, whole student assessments, and data displays, housed on a customized learning platform (powered by the Canvas learning management system). This suite of tools and resources is supplemented by ongoing, customized coaching for school leadership teams.

We are seeking a Director of Data & Insights Product to lead the strategic evolution, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Data & Insights product as a unique and critical centerpiece of Gradient’s Whole Student System moving forward. This leader will ensure that school leaders and educators have access to meaningful, actionable insights that drive instruction and whole student growth—while spearheading the redesign and advancement of the current version of the product.

The Director will report to the Managing Director of Program Delivery and collaborate closely with the platform, instructional supports, and program success teams. 

 

The Director of Data & Insights Product will: 

Design, Refine, and Lead the Data & Insights Product Strategy

  • Develop deep expertise in Gradient Learning’s program model and define the strategy for the next version of the Data & Insights product—including integration of AI-powered tools to support scalable insight generation.
  • Collaborate with leadership to set a multi-year product vision and corresponding metrics of success.
  • Develop and manage an annual roadmap for product development, enhancements, and support.
  • Ensure the Data & Insights product roadmap aligns with evolving program strategies and organizational goals.

Oversee Data & Insights Product Development and Delivery

  • Partner with internal teams to define key metrics and organizational data needs.
  • Lead the design and delivery of Tableau visualizations that translate usage, engagement, and learning data into actionable insights for educators and administrators.
  • Conduct user testing to ensure insights are intuitive, meaningful, and aligned to school partner needs.
  • Manage internal team members and external vendors (e.g., Instructure, Snowflake, Tableau engineers and PMs) to ensure timely delivery and performance.
  • Oversee ongoing dashboard monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain rigorous data validation and quality assurance processes.
  • Support internal teams in building data fluency and using insights to inform decision-making.

Strengthen Data Infrastructure in Partnership with Information Systems

  • Collaborate with the Managing Director of Information Systems & Security to design and guide the evolution of our data storage and infrastructure strategy.
  • Promote best practices in security, scalability, and system performance.
  • Maintain and optimize our Snowflake-based data architecture to ensure it supports current and future product needs.
  • Oversee the design and performance of data ingestion, transformation, and visualization pipelines.

Lead  the Data & Insights Product Delivery Team

  • Set clear, strategic goals aligned to organizational priorities and values.
  • Coach and support team members through strength-based feedback and regular performance check-ins.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and joyful culture where all team members feel valued and empowered to do their best work.

 

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a candidate who lives at the intersection of instructional, data, and technology expertise. We imagine this could be someone who began their career as an educator and later transitioned into a more technical role—working with data systems, visualizations, and product development to support learning outcomes. Alternatively, this may be someone with a strong foundation in data and insights who, through years of working in the education sector, has developed a deep and empathetic understanding of schools, educators, and instructional programming. In either case, the ideal candidate brings a blend of technical fluency, strategic thinking, and educational insight to drive impactful, user-centered product delivery.

Data Expertise & Technical Fluency

  • Has strong expertise in data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Tableau) and can translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for educators and administrators.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of data infrastructure and architecture, and can collaborate effectively with engineering teams to maintain scalable, secure systems.
  • Brings knowledge of leveraging AI and machine learning tools to enhance insight generation, automate analysis, and deliver scalable, personalized data experiences.

  • Communicates confidently with diverse stakeholders—from senior leaders  to engineers to educators—and tailors messages to meet different audience needs.

Location
Our work is national in scope, and our team is virtual. Location for this role is flexible within the continental United States.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to uphold Gradient Learning values.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (preferred). 
  • 5+ years of experience working in the K-12 space, i.e., in schools, educational nonprofits, and educational technology companies (required) 
  • 3+ years of experience in data product development (required)
  • 3+ years of experience translating complex data into educator-friendly visualizations using Tableau (required)
  • 3+ years of people management experience (required)
  • 3+ years of experience with Snowflake or comparable cloud-based data warehousing platforms (strongly preferred)
  • Experience using AI or machine learning to enhance data analysis or deliver scalable, educator-facing insights (strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with LTI standards, LMS platforms, and education data interoperability; direct experience with Canvas LMS (strongly preferred)
  • Knowledge of data privacy, security, and protection standards, particularly as they relate to PII and educational data (FERPA, COPPA, etc.) (preferred)
  • A clear background check.
  • An ability to travel 20%.

 

What You Can Expect From Us:

Gradient Learning offers full-time employees competitive salaries and benefits. The beginning range for this role is $138,000-$150,000, with candidates typically starting at the beginning portion of the range; this enables the employee's growth in the range over time. The actual placement of the range depends on the candidate's qualifications, internal equity considerations, and the budget earmarked for this role. 


Candidates living in the following areas will receive a cost of labor increase of:

  • SF Bay Area: +10%
  • New York Metro Area:  +5%
