Staff Product Designer, Grafana DataViz

This is a remote position. We are looking for candidates in the US (Eastern time zone).

About Grafana Labs

Grafana Labs provides an open and composable monitoring and observability platform built around Grafana, the leading open source technology for dashboards and visualization. There are more than 20M users of Grafana around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. The instantly recognizable dashboards have been spotted everywhere from a SpaceX launch and Minecraft HQ to Wimbledon and the Tour de France. Grafana Labs also helps more than 3,000 companies—including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay—manage their observability strategies with full-stack offerings that can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud, or self-managed with Grafana Enterprise Stack.

The role

As a Staff Product Designer at Grafana Labs, you will join a growing Product Design organization of more than 25 designers, researchers, and design leaders distributed across five continents. You will be working within a 100% remote R&D organization, so strong, proactive remote communication, collaboration, facilitation, and relationship building skills will be essential to your success.

The primary focus of your role will be to design user experiences for the data visualization capabilities of the Grafana platform, which are core to the Grafana product experience.

You will be embedded within the DataViz squad (cross-functional team), which is responsible for the majority of visualizations in Grafana like Histogram, Time series, Geomap, and Canvas, as well as data manipulation with transformations. You will help design and build the growing number of advanced, full-feature visualizations that power our platform, helping make the data we collect easy for users to understand and act on.

In this role, you'll help evolve and execute a design strategy for the DataViz focus area based on business and product strategic priorities, customer and user feedback, and technical considerations. In doing so, you will collaborate with peers and leaders in the product design, engineering, product management, technical writing, and GTM functions to make Grafana data visualizations usable, useful, and extensible so that Grafana’s users can make informed and confident decisions with their data.

You will document user needs and pain points, design directions, UX tradeoffs, and detailed designs for specific features and enhancements using a variety of product design artifacts, aiming to provide pragmatic, cohesive, scalable design solutions to business, customer, and user needs. Working with researchers, cross-functional collaborators, customers, and members of the Grafana user community, you will execute and contribute to formative and evaluative research initiatives.

Over time, you will develop deep expertise in your product area and associated customer and user personas, use cases, and workflows that will enable you to make a meaningful impact on the user experience your product delivers to Grafana customers.

You will also have an opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the Product Design team at Grafana by coaching and mentoring other designers, collaborating on team internal initiatives, and helping evolve new ways of working, learning, and having fun together as the team scales.

We would be excited if you bring

  • Deep experience as a product designer working on B2B/enterprise software products
  • A portfolio showcasing solid experience designing elegant, usable, and scalable data visualizations for interactive web applications, shipped iteratively in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to rapidly gain an understanding of a technical domain and associated customer needs and user workflows in order to design effective experiences within that domain
  • Ability to synthesize business and product strategic priorities, customer feedback, research insights, and technical considerations into pragmatic, cohesive design solutions
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with highly distributed cross-functional teams to ship and evolve in an iterative fashion while keeping the end design vision in mind
  • Experience working independently in a remote environment, combining a bias for action, a growth mindset, and a drive for clarity, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Experience coaching and mentoring other designers

You would stand out if you can demonstrate

  • Experience working with and designing Grafana data visualizations or equivalent
  • Experience designing for developers, SREs, or other highly technical user personas
  • Domain knowledge or experience related to observability
  • Experience helping design teams level up their practice, user and organizational impact, and collaboration with partner functions such as product management and engineering

When you apply, please:

  • Let us know why you want to work at Grafana Labs
  • Provide an example of a successful data visualization product/experience for technical users and a sentence or two on what you believe makes it effective

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
