You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.

Product Designer, Database Observability

This is a remote position. We are looking for candidates in the United States and Canada, in the EST time zone.

About Grafana Labs

Grafana Labs provides an open and composable monitoring and observability platform built around Grafana, the leading open source technology for dashboards and visualization. There are more than 20M users of Grafana around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. The instantly recognizable dashboards have been spotted everywhere from a SpaceX launch and Minecraft HQ to Wimbledon and the Tour de France. Grafana Labs also helps more than 3,000 companies—including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay—manage their observability strategies with full-stack offerings that can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud, or self-managed with Grafana Enterprise Stack.

The role

As a Product Designer at Grafana Labs, you will join a growing Product Design organization of more than 25 designers, researchers, and design leaders distributed across six continents. You will be working within a 100% remote R&D organization, so strong, proactive remote communication, collaboration, facilitation, and relationship building skills will be essential to your success.

The primary focus of your role will be contributing to our Database Observability product (DB O11y). DB O11y provides our customers with deep, actionable insights into their database environments. This product enables applications developers and database admins to surface, troubleshoot, and optimize latency problems and slow running queries across the critical database infrastructure that underpins a company’s core business applications

The DB O11y product is currently in Private Preview and in early testing with a few select customers. We are looking for a Product Designer who can field customer and user feedback, observe user behavior using product analytics tools, and identify opportunities to improve the Database Observability user experience through Public Preview, GA, and beyond. Additionally, alongside peers in product management, technical writing, engineering, and more, you will work to evolve the feature set, optimize troubleshooting and exploratory workflows, and ensure the DB O11y experience is tightly woven into our overall Grafana Cloud suite of products.

Over time, you will develop deep expertise in your product area and associated customer and user personas, use cases, and workflows that will enable you to make a meaningful impact on the user experience your product delivers to Grafana customers.

You will also have an opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the Product Design team at Grafana by collaborating with other designers on cross-product experiences and through design critiques, contributing to team internal initiatives, and helping evolve new ways of working, learning, and having fun together as the team scales.

We would be excited if you bring

  • Experience designing for developers, database admins (DBAs), or other highly technical users
  • A portfolio of effective designs for complex products delivered in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to synthesize business and product strategic priorities, customer feedback, research insights, and technical considerations into pragmatic, cohesive, scalable design solutions
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with highly distributed cross-functional teams to ship and evolve in an iterative fashion while keeping the end design vision in mind
  • Experience working independently in a remote environment, combining a bias for action, a growth mindset, and a drive for clarity, transparency, and continuous improvement

You would stand out if you can demonstrate

  • Experience instrumenting product analytics, planning and participating in user interviews, and making data driven decisions as a result
  • Ability to rapidly gain an understanding of a technical domain and associated customer needs and user workflows in order to design effective experiences within that domain
  • Ability to develop new patterns and components when needed, while still looking after component, pattern, and visual consistency across the Grafana ecosystem

When you apply, please:

  • Let us know why you want to work at Grafana Labs
  • Provide an example of a successful data visualization product/experience for technical users and a sentence or two on what you believe makes it effective

In the US, the base compensation range for this role is $108,000 - $136,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed in the interview process. Benefits include equity, bonus (if applicable) and other benefits listed here.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
