Staff Frontend Engineer - Grafana Enterprise | Canada | Remote

Canada (Remote)

Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source powerhouse. There are more than 20M users of Grafana, the open source visualization tool, around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. The instantly recognizable dashboards have been spotted everywhere from a NASA launch and Minecraft HQ to Wimbledon and the Tour de France. Grafana Labs also helps more than 3,000 companies -- including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay -- manage their observability strategies with the Grafana LGTM Stack, which can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud or self-managed with the Grafana Enterprise Stack, both featuring scalable metrics (Grafana Mimir), logs (Grafana Loki), and traces (Grafana Tempo).

We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. Our team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do.

You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.

This is a remote opportunity and we would be interested in applicants from Canada only at this time

The opportunity

Grafana Enterprise is our composable observability platform that is focused on large-scale operators with security and regulatory requirements that require them to self-operate their observability solutions. Grafana Enterprise features are also part of our Grafana Cloud service. Grafana Cloud is an integrated suite of observability applications offered as a service. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, and Tempo – without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack.

Who is the Grafana Enterprise team?

The Grafana Enterprise team is a diverse team of expert technologists working remotely from around the globe. The team focuses on innovative solutions to large-scale customer challenges and developing solutions that improve security, robustness, flexibility, multitenancy, and interoperability on behalf of our customers. We work across the larger Grafana Labs organization and directly with external customers to solve large scale observability challenges. Our customers include software engineers, site reliability engineers, medium, large and global enterprises and leading global cloud service providers. As a company we are remote-first and global, we embrace people of different experiences and backgrounds to build diverse teams where every person brings a new perspective to the software. Our meetings tend to happen between 14:00 and 17:00 UTC, but we are flexible and responsive to the needs of our engineers and our customers. We measure ourselves by our openness, helpfulness, and our shared successes.

We are looking for software engineers who are passionate about communicating with data and providing seamless experiences for our customers to join our growing team! Our stack is Typescript + React (interacting with backends written in Golang), but we build tools for people using many other stacks. Frontend Engineers at Grafana also contribute to Open Source communities.

What will you be doing?

  • Earning the trust of our customers to further Grafana’s “big tent” philosophy of data accessibility and to meet clear business objectives
  • Leading the development of features for people like you
  • Driving continuous improvement of our engineering culture through words and actions.
  • Driving projects from initial ideation through the development lifecycle to production
  • Contributing to projects that impact the experience of Grafana operators around the world
  • Owning the experience of our customers by participating in weekday 12h x 5d and separate weekend 24h x 2d on-call rotations. (Yes, we prioritize ops load reduction.)
  • Hiring and developing the best engineers to build the future of Grafana
  • Developing your skills as a thought leader to drive continuous improvement of engineering and operational practices across Grafana Labs

As a Frontend Engineer, you will be working on visualizations for enterprise application developers who are managing their applications at runtime, and observability tools targeted for other frontend developers.

  • Collaborating with Product, UX, and graphic designers to turn their designs into great user experiences.
  • Implementing visual designs using clean, reusable components.
  • Collaborating with software engineers from across Grafana Labs and various large scale customers and IaaS providers.
  • Expand and improve our core libraries that other teams and the plugin ecosystem depend on.
  • Developing thought leadership within the front-end and UX community at Grafana Labs
  • Advocating for our customers at every stage of the development lifecycle.

As we are remote-first and our engineering organization, we provide guidance and meet regularly using video calls, so strong teamwork and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are a must.

What makes you a great fit:

  • You work well as a communicative member of a team of engineering professionals.
  • You earn trust by saying what you mean and doing what you say.
  • You are customer focused. You start with the customers’ needs and work backwards.
  • You insist on the highest standards and work to develop the skills and knowledge of your fellow team members.
  • You take on complex challenges and break them down into digestible problems and leverage your team and organization to deliver.
  • You design modular solutions, deliver minimum loveable products, gather data and feedback and then progress iteratively.
  • Professional experience engineering testable React UIs from ideation through to production operations.
  • Professional experience developing clean, testable software with TypeScript.
  • Experience delivering deployable Webpack artifacts in a continuous delivery environment.
  • Building performant and robust tests with Jest and Playwright.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
