POSITION SUMMARY

Greenpeace USA is seeking a seasoned, strategic, cross-functional leader to enhance collaboration, operations and project management across departments and entities. This role will focus on developing and implementing processes that facilitate the execution of organizational strategy, directly impacting Greenpeace USA’s mission. The role spans work with Greenpeace USA and Greenpeace USA Votes, a newly established political action committee (PAC), and reports directly to the Chief of Staff.

This part-time position (24 hours per week) offers a unique opportunity to drive strategic initiatives, build operational capacity, and foster cross-departmental collaboration in a dynamic nonprofit environment.

The Senior Strategic Projects Manager is an exempt, part-time role preferably based in Washington, DC,  or New York City and will report to the Chief of Staff.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

  • Execute key projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Provide strategic analysis, advice, and guidance to senior leadership teams, facilitating new opportunities and enhancing organizational impact.
  • Build cross-functional engagement to deliver on organizational priorities.
  • Lead fact-finding initiatives and align findings for executive decision-making.

Organizational Development

  • Identify and implement new processes to streamline and enhance organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to advance improvements across projects, systems, staff practices, and internal processes.
  • Embed accountability across teams and programs, ensuring adherence to organizational goals and best practices.

Greenpeace USA Votes PAC

  • Facilitate strategic planning and establish robust program management for the PAC to meet its strategic objectives.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to strengthen the PAC’s position for future election cycles.
  • Oversee budget management, financial tracking, and system/process improvements.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and external partners to meet FEC reporting requirements.
  • Provide analysis and strategic advice to inform decision-making on PAC activities.

Program Management

  • Lead high-level cross-functional projects, fostering collaboration and ensuring clear accountability.
  • Drive reporting and accountability on select organizational priorities to the SMT and Greenpeace International.
  • Embed program management strategies to enhance efficiency and collaboration.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, develop contingency plans, and ensure timely resolution of issues.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • 15+ years of senior-level experience, including 10+ years:
    • Working with or on senior leadership teams in strategic, advisory, or leadership roles.
    • Planning and executing complex programs at the highest strategic level.
    • Leading cross-functional teams and building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong expertise in strategy development and execution.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, with excellent influence, persuasion, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven experience leading change management initiatives in NGOs.
  • Senior-level budget management and financial tracking experience.
  • Background in strategy consulting or experience at the senior leadership/executive level.
  • Experience working with political action committees, including FEC reporting requirements.
  • Significant experience in mission-driven, nonprofit, or environmental justice organizations.

COMPENSATION 

The compensation for this position will be determined on employment and is anticipated to be between $7,000 - $9,000 per month.
