Senior Platform Engineer

The Role 

We are looking for an exceptionally motivated Senior Platform Engineer to accelerate the development and operation of cutting-edge web and mobile eCommerce applications across our many lines of business: retail
delivery/click-and-collect (B2C), wholesale B2B, and CPG brands both via retailer (B2B2C) and D2C where allowed. The role is a foundational piece of a highly visible, business facing team focused on aligning strategic 
objectives with tactical demands in the cannabis industry, one of the fastest growing and most innovative industries in the US. 

This is a hybrid position and requires onsite work at our Chicago HQ as needed. 

Responsibilities 

  • Demonstrate technical excellence in cloud infrastructure development, with expertise in containerized environments, load balancing, network access control, identity access, cloud storage, and knowledge of monitoring and logging, TCP/IP, and API management.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) with a strong understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP and HTTP/HTTPS.
  • Expertise in automating cloud environment provisioning using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Serverless frameworks; proven experience in pipeline engineering and CI/CD practices using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions.
  • Collaborate with teams to strategize, consult, and prototype, promoting best practices and innovative solutions for applications within the CI/CD pipeline and the cloud framework.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and architectural trends, evaluating their potential impact; advocate for integrating relevant new technologies to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Provide technical consulting and mentorship and demonstrate technical expertise in cloud technologies, containerization, incident response, and development tools and processes.
  • Develop and execute Site Reliability plans to meet internal SLAs, ensuring systems are robust, scalable, and resilient.
  • Craft preventative automation and standards to mitigate production infrastructure incidents. Spearhead the implementation of monitoring tools.
  • Drive the development of compliance automation and policy-as-code to ensure efficient cloud governance.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers, aiming for excellence in service.
  • Communicate effectively about project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders and management.
  • Manage conflicts involving timelines, budgets, and project scope autonomously, escalating complex issues when necessary.
  • Design and develop tools, platforms, and frameworks that enhance developer productivity and streamline workflows.
  • Guide changes through proper review and approval channels.
  • Thrive in an agile development environment and contribute to enhancing customer experience through improved tools and services.

  • Frontend: React, Next.js, Composable / Atomic Design
  • Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, Serverless
  • DevOps: IaC / Terraform, GitLab, AWS, Atlassian (JSM-Compass-Opsgenie), Datadog
  • Architecture: Microservices based, API first, Cloud-native SaaS, Headless

Qualifications  

  •  4+ years of cloud technology experience demonstrating progressive professional development.
  • AWS associate certification (Cloud Engineer, Cloud DevOps Engineer, Developer, Solution Architect, SysOps Administrator Associate) and/or relevant experience preferred.
  • Proficient in IaaS and PaaS services on AWS/GCP.
  • Well-versed in Infrastructure-as-Code and associated technologies (e.g., repos, pipelines, Terraform).
  • Background in a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) role.
  • Skilled in using application monitoring tools like DataDog or Dynatrace.
  • A strong inclination towards automation in all operational tasks.

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
