POSITION OVERVIEW
Grey Health's high-performing New Business team seeks a dynamic Director to drive growth within the pharmaceutical/health and wellness sector. The Director will spearhead new business efforts, from identifying and evaluating potential clients to developing winning RFPs and leading pitch teams. As the Director of New Business, you will collaborate with existing client partners while actively seeking out and engaging new client opportunities for our renowned team. We are in search of a motivated and seasoned individual to help spearhead and execute the day-to-day operations of our business development efforts. This pivotal role will garner significant visibility at the highest levels of the broader Grey Health global network as well as WPP (our holding company) and necessitates collaborative work across diverse teams. Reporting to the VP, New Business, this position will be instrumental in driving purposeful growth and business development, resulting in substantial revenue for the agency.
Required qualifications include 7+ years of strategic planning experience (pharmaceutical advertising preferred), experience in a new business agency pitch environment, excellent communication and presentation skills, and a demonstrated ability for abstract thinking, trend spotting, and understanding consumer behavior and pop culture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Client Relationship Development: Proactively cultivates strong relationships with potential clients, effectively communicating the agency's value proposition and engaging in early dialogue to understand their needs, challenges, and ideal partner criteria. Goes beyond the scope of RFPs to uncover unmet needs and identify opportunities for the agency to provide unique value.
- Strategic New Business Evaluation: Provides critical market intelligence and client insights to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), informing data-driven go/no-go decisions for pursuing new business opportunities. This includes synthesizing information gathered from client interactions, market research, and competitive analysis to develop winning recommendations.
- Pitch Process Leadership: Kicking-off and steer the pitch process by providing constructive feedback and ensuring team efforts are in alignment with client objectives and expectations, while upholding Grey Health standards. Champion exceptional quality in both content and delivery throughout the entire pitch lifecycle.
- Pipeline Growth & Market Intelligence: Continuously monitors industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities to inform leadership and develop new business strategies that align with pipeline objectives and strengthen competitive positioning.
- Agency Advocacy & Internal Collaboration: Serves as a central point of contact for disseminating key information about agency capabilities, positioning, and case studies to internal teams while fostering strong relationships across the agency, Grey network, and WPP to facilitate collaboration and resource sharing.
- Team Leadership & Development: Cultivates a high-performing New Business team by mentoring, developing, and providing guidance to team members, including direct supervision of the Coordinator/Manager, while fostering a culture of equity, growth, and innovation.
SUCCESS CRITERIA (1-year from now):
- Independently manage and lead 3+ mid-to-large pitches simultaneously.
- Establish yourself as a highly valued thought leader for health and wellness New Business needs.
- Identify and pursue 3-5 proactive opportunities for growth, contributing to double-digit revenue growth.
- Deliver tangible impacts in pitches resulting in successful wins.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- 8+ years of experience in Business Development roles within reputable agencies.
- Strong understanding of marketing function and Director-level decision-making processes.
- Excellent communication skills with a knack for delivering persuasive presentations.
- Demonstrated ability in abstract thinking, trend-spotting, and understanding human behavior.
- Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, and time management abilities.
The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $160,000 to $180,000.
