About the Position

The Sales Representative will lead territory growth by opening new doors, strengthening current customer relationships, and positioning Groome as a go-to partner for power generation services, while building a separate pipeline for Vac & Water work with heavy industrial accounts.

This role requires frequent travel throughout the territory, consistent customer engagement, and the ability to identify how industrial vacuuming, hydroblasting, water treatment, waste handling, outage cleaning, environmental support, and related field services support safe, compliant, and reliable operations for power generation and heavy industrial customers.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • New Business Development: Build territory strategy, prospect, develop pipeline, and win new customers; measured by new accounts, new-account revenue, and opportunities created.
  • Account Growth & Cross-Selling: Expand existing accounts through additional Groome services, facilities, and business units; measured by multi-service customers, expanded-service revenue, retention, and account growth.
  • Customer Relationships: Visit customers regularly, understand maintenance needs, and build relationships with plant, maintenance, procurement, and executive decision-makers; measured by visit activity, account engagement, and relationship coverage.
  • Proposals & Closing: Present solutions, negotiate agreements, close business, and coordinate with operations; measured by proposals, win rates, closed revenue, and forecast accuracy.
  • Industry Engagement: Represent Groome at industry events and develop relationships that strengthen the brand; measured by qualified opportunities and event-driven pipeline.
  • CRM & Reporting: Maintain accurate opportunities, forecasts, account plans, and activity in Microsoft Dynamics CRM; measured by CRM accuracy, pipeline quality, and timely reporting.

What does it take to work for Groome Industrial Service Group?

  • New Business Development: Build a territory strategy focused primarily on power generation accounts while also developing a dedicated Vac & Water pipeline across heavy industrial customers; measured by new accounts, new-account revenue, qualified opportunities, and cross-sell pipeline created.
  • Account Growth & Cross-Selling: Expand power generation and heavy industrial accounts by identifying additional Groome services, facilities, business units, recurring vac truck work, hydroblast needs, water treatment, waste handling, outage cleaning, and environmental support opportunities; measured by multi-service customers, expanded-service revenue, retention, and account growth.
  • Customer Relationships: Visit customers regularly, understand power plant maintenance, outage, reliability, environmental, and Vac & Water service needs, while also calling on heavy industrial customers that require recurring vacuuming, hydroblasting, water handling, waste handling, and environmental support; measured by visit activity, account engagement, and relationship coverage.
  • Proposals & Closing: Translate customer needs into practical vac and water scopes, coordinate pricing and operating approach with field leadership, present solutions, negotiate agreements, and close business; measured by proposals, win rates, closed revenue, and forecast accuracy.
  • Service Line Focus: Service Line Focus: Develop fluency in Groome’s power generation and Vac & Water capabilities, including outage cycles, industrial cleaning, catalyst, coatings, mechanical services, vacuuming, hydroblasting, water handling, disposal considerations, safety expectations, site constraints, and mobilization requirements.
  • CRM & Reporting: Maintain accurate opportunities, forecasts, account plans, and activity in Microsoft Dynamics CRM; measured by CRM accuracy, pipeline quality, and timely reporting.

Qualifications

We are seeking a credible, field-oriented sales professional who understands industrial vac and water priorities: safety, responsiveness, environmental compliance, outage readiness, cost control, and minimizing downtime.

Required Experience & Capabilities

  • Proven success in outside sales, business development, account management, or technical sales serving industrial vacuuming, hydroblasting, water treatment, waste
  • handling, environmental services, power generation, utility, refinery, manufacturing, or related heavy industrial markets.
  • Ability to build trust with plant managers, project managers, maintenance leaders, operations teams, EHS contacts, outage planners, procurement teams, engineers, and executive decision-makers.
  • Comfort discussing vac truck services, hydroblasting, water handling, waste streams, disposal considerations, confined-space support, outage cleaning, safety planning, scheduling constraints, and downtime costs.
  • Consultative selling skills to uncover needs, position solutions, develop proposals, negotiate value-based agreements, and close complex opportunities.
  • Disciplined approach to territory planning, pipeline development, forecasting, account strategy, CRM usage, and follow-through.
  • Strong communication, business judgment, and ability to coordinate with vac and water operations, estimating, safety, dispatch, transportation, disposal partners, and field service teams.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and spend meaningful time in plants, maintenance shops, outage meetings, customer facilities, and field service environments.

Preferred Power Generation & Heavy Industrial Vac & Water Background

  • Relationships within fossil fuel, combined-cycle, utility, IPP, co-op, industrial cogeneration, refinery, chemical, municipal, construction, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial facilities that use recurring power generation, cleaning, vac, water, and environmental services.
  • Knowledge of plant maintenance cycles, forced and planned outages, turnarounds, boiler and HRSG work, emissions equipment, catalyst services, industrial cleaning, coatings, mechanical services, industrial vacuuming, hydroblasting, jetting, water treatment, wastewater handling, sludge removal, tank and pit cleaning, outage cleaning, dewatering, waste profiling, transportation, and disposal workflows.
  • Experience selling specialized field-executed services where credibility, safety performance, environmental compliance, rapid response, equipment availability, operator skill, schedule certainty, and execution influence buying decisions.
  • Understanding of vendor selection criteria, including safety record, compliance documentation, responsiveness, technical capability, equipment capacity, field supervision, disposal options, references, and outage performance.
  • Experience with regional or national accounts, multi-site customers, recurring service agreements, emergency response work, site-specific service programs, framework agreements, blanket POs, MSAs, and multi-facility customers.
  • A professional customer network in power generation, industrial cleaning, environmental services, Vac & Water, or related heavy industrial markets is highly valued.
