Chinese Linguist
What Impact You’ll Have:
Chinese Linguist providing linguistic and cultural context analysis. Offering expertise for research and report generation per customer identified subject matter and customer directed objectives. GRVTY is seeking a Chinese Linguist possessing language skill with in-depth knowledge of the relevant geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural landscape of the subject geographical language area. A successful candidate must be able to or have working experience in processing and analyzing large amounts of raw information in subject language.
What You’ll Be Owning:
- Chinese Linguist position provides considerable responsibility and autonomy. The Chinese Linguist will work with multiple/various teams and projects to provide linguistic and cultural support as needed.
- All work will be performed in corporate office spaces, with occasional travel to offices within the Washington Metropolitan Area as needed to participate in meetings and/or exchanges.
- Conduct research in Chinese language on wide ranging topics and large aperture geographic region consulting open-source materials, including primary and secondary sources, and social media derived data.
- Leverage language capability to process then convey meaning and significance with high accuracy from large amounts of unorganized data
- Process and translate information and material in support of ongoing mission focus
- Provide ad hoc subject language assistance to the customer as needed
- Convey commentary reflecting specific culture and “real-world” cultural dynamics while conveying and recording the meaning of socio-cultural elements embedded in text
- Provide awareness of and draw customer attention to data derived from customer resources related to the subject area
- Identify, capture, incorporate, and combine information from multiple database and repository holdings and assessments, into finished products providing value in source and subject language, to produce polished, well-organized analytic products
- Be willing and capable of learning new tools (COTS / GOTS) · Capable of working independently as well as in a team environment.
- Provide and demonstrate the ability to identify and derive requirements, develop clear goals for all areas of a project and develop steps to oversee their timely execution.
- Provide proactive response to language and cultural based challenges or constraints within a project and seek to manage them accordingly.
What You Must Have:
- Security Clearance: TS/SCI
- Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) score of 3
- Strong critical thinking and analytic skills
- Capable of translating in real time
What Would Be Nice to Have:
- DLPT score of 3+
- Experienced in writing reports
- Experienced in Chinese deep-dive research
- Trained and proficient in data collection, analysis and integration
