The HR Operations Specialist is a core member of GumGum's People Operations team, responsible for the day-to-day execution of benefits administration, immigration support, compensation operations, and recurring People programs.
This role sits between our People Ops coordinators and the specialists who own strategy in each domain, providing the operational execution, data integrity, and process support that keeps the People function running smoothly across benefits, immigration, compensation, and program delivery.
The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented generalist who is comfortable moving across HR domains rather than specializing in one, and who uses tools like ChatGPT or Claude to work efficiently and accurately.
This role reports to the VP, People & Culture.
Note: GumGum fosters a flexible work environment, offering GumGummers the ability to work either in-office or remotely/from home. However, for occasional in-person collaboration, we kindly ask that this position be located within a 'commutable' distance to our office.
What You'll Achieve
- Own day-to-day benefits administration and drive the annual open enrollment cycle end to end — enrollments, qualifying life events, invoice reconciliation, and COBRA coordination.
- Partner with the team's immigration point of contact to keep cases and filing deadlines on track, and own I-9 and E-Verify execution outright.
- Maintain the compensation data the whole People function runs on: the variable pay index, the job architecture and levelling library, and submissions to our benchmarking partners.
- Build the analysis behind real pay decisions — band placement, compa-ratio, and offer analytics the team acts on.
- Keep recurring People programs moving on cadence, from the performance review cycle to the annual compensation review to engagement surveys.
- Curate the People programs calendar so cycles land cleanly and never collide.
- Work alongside our People systems owners on data integrity and audits across HR tools like ChartHop.
- Take on cross-domain special projects as they surface — a generalist seat with genuine range.
Skills You'll Bring
- 3+ years in HR or People Operations, comfortable moving across benefits, immigration, compensation, and program support rather than specializing in one.
- Proven ability to run a defined process independently once trained — processing enrollments, reconciling data, or preparing reports.
- Experience supporting a recurring People program such as open enrollment or a performance cycle as part of a team.
- Hands-on fluency in an HRIS or payroll system such as ADP Workforce Now.
- A reconciliation instinct: you can put two data sets side by side, like invoices against enrollment records, and spot what doesn't line up.
- Strong organization and deadline awareness — you track multiple recurring processes at once, follow documented process closely, and escalate exceptions rather than improvise.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including fielding employee questions on benefits and process with confidence.
- AI literacy — you use tools like ChatGPT or Claude to draft communications, analyze data, and troubleshoot faster, with real examples to point to.
