Company OS is looking for an engineering lead with strong experience in designing, developing and operating complex backend systems. You must be passionate about building from the ground up, thrive on solving complex technical problems, and enjoy collaborating closely with cross-functional partners. You have experience with distributed systems, API design, data modeling, and delivering platform solutions. You are a collaborative team player, leveraging your technical expertise and excellent communication skills to deliver impact across the organization.

Here’s what you’ll do day to day:

  • Build the next generation of systems and solutions to enable customer-facing features and services that power the full company lifecycle.
  • Evolve existing systems by assessing strengths, limitations and seeking opportunities for improvement. Employ your broad technical expertise to deliver impact across the stack.
  • Comprehend product/platform goals and initiatives with the company lens, achieve alignment with stakeholders, and contribute to team objectives and roadmaps.
  • Be a strategic partner to product, design and other functions, working collaboratively and iteratively to deliver measurable value for our customers
  • Collaborate with and lead engineers to solve problems by designing systems, writing code, and participating in the full DevOps lifecycle.
  • Lead by example as both a technical and cultural steward, mentoring and supporting the engineers to strengthen the team

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 12+ years of software development experience. Candidate should be a technical leader with experience leading large, complex projects.
  • Lead multi- year projects that have taken companies from small to large scale.
  • Proficiency in systems design, data modeling and API design along with a knack for producing elegant, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Strong instincts and experience building for consumer or enterprise products in a highly cross-functional setting.
  • A keen eye for identifying platform opportunities, coupled with an ability to understand and anticipate customer needs. 
  • Passion for creating memorable experiences and extraordinary value for our customers
  • Expertise in complex product-platform development problems using ActiveRecord (Ruby on Rails) or similar ORM.
  • Appreciation for a collaborative, test-driven environment

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $191,000 - $237,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $225,000 - $279,00 San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

 

Locations

2 Days in office hybrid: San Francisco, New York, and Denver. 

Fully remote: Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, Atlanta, Miami only


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
