About the Team:

Do you want to help guide financial planning, business operations, and strategic decision making at a Forbes Cloud 100 company? Come join the Finance, BizOps & Strategy (FBOS) team at Gusto. The FBOS team provides financial, operational, and strategic support at the corporate, departmental, and product level. The team’s mission is to define and defend the business model while accelerating Gusto’s growth.

About the Role:

As part of the Corporate Finance sub team, you’ll be a key player in shaping the financial & operational future of our high-growth SaaS company. You'll be the systems & technology SME embedded in the Finance team, owning our connected planning system Pigment end-to-end. You’ll be building scalable systems based solutions to challenging cross functional problems, optimizing existing systems & processes that drive strategic decision making, and identifying ways to leverage new technologies like AI to drive better insights into our business. The role may suit candidates of varying experience levels, we’re open to both junior and senior candidates. Expectations for the role and compensation will be aligned with the candidate's background and experience. 

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Own our connected planning system Pigment end-to-end and play a leadership role in building and execution of the long-term systems & operations roadmapWork closely with the Finance team & cross functional partners to convert business-planning & scaling use cases into our financial planning system Pigment, and to continuously improve system capabilities.
  • Develop technical systems based solutions to business problems; validate and communicate technical requirements to internal and external team members, test solutions and ensure it meets specifications.
  • Configure and maintain Pigment metrics, lists, dashboards, actions and other model settings to support new business objectives and initiatives.
  • Participate & run design sessions in prototyping new solutions for enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow
  • Play a leadership role in building and execution of the long-term systems & operations roadmap
  • Manage ongoing system maintenance and recommend improvements that can drive efficiencies across Finance & Strategy
  • Prepare business users and team members by conducting training

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Experience
    • 4+ years of experience building and maintaining models in financial planning tools in a corporate or consulting environment
    • 1+ year(s) of experience building in Pigment Experience building, improving, & running scalable processes & workflow
      • Preferred: Experience working with FP&A / Strategic Finance functions or familiarity with role of Finance in an organization
  • Technical skills
    • Ability to build & improve upon processes, reports, and models that meet constantly evolving business requirements in a scalable manner
    • Cross-functional knowledge of system dependencies and process flows including business intelligence, data science and system integrations
    • Expert modeling capabilities with the ability to troubleshoot complex planning models, and design a modeling solution without explicit direction
    • Subject matter expertise in financial management systems, including an understanding of finance & accounting principles and how they apply to planning and/or consolidation solutions
  • Discipline & Attitude
    • Strong analytical skills, and a deep interest in problem solving and using technology to improve business processes
    • Sharp attention to detail with a natural feel for numbers and data, and have a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
    • Impressive time management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects/tasks with multiple stakeholders while hitting deadlines on time sensitive projects.
    • Excellent relationship skills and can effectively work with business leaders, stakeholders, infrastructure teams and various development teams across the organization
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • General athlete that can help solve different types of problems and switch gears in a short period of time
    • When things break, get your hands dirty and troubleshoot issues that arise

Our compensation range for this role is between $131,000 to $194,000 in New York City. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
