About the Role:

As a Risk Product Specialist, you will be instrumental in ensuring that Gusto Embedded Payroll (GEP) remains a secure, efficient, and user-friendly platform for our partners. You’ll collaborate with risk, operations, and cross-functional teams to gather and act on feedback, drive process improvements, and create innovative solutions that safeguard our partners while enhancing their embedded experience. With a focus on risk management and partner success, you’ll develop systems, processes, and documentation that enable seamless partnerships and support the implementation of GEP’s risk stack. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on both the safety and effectiveness of GEP for our partners and their users.

About the Team:

The Payments and Risk team at Gusto is dedicated to ensuring that over 300,000 small and medium businesses and their employees are paid accurately, securely, and on time. This role supports GEP, Gusto's newest and fastest-growing business segment, which enables developers to build payroll solutions directly into their applications. GEP combines robust APIs, embeddable UI flows, and developer toolkits to create an innovative Embedded Payroll product. The team operates like a startup within Gusto, with its own sales, marketing, support, and engineering resources, while collaborating with the broader organization to deliver a world-class platform that empowers businesses at the intersection of fintech and labor.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Documentation & Communication: Develop and maintain clear, thorough documentation that explains our risk program to diverse audiences, ensuring both internal and external stakeholders are well-informed.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze data to produce monthly metrics reports, newsletters, and portfolio performance monitoring. These should highlight trends (existing and emerging), losses and opportunities for improvement across the whole embedded portfolio, providing valuable insights for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement: Identify breaks, gaps, and areas for improvement within our products. Collaborate with teams, including Legal, Engineering, Technical Solutions, and Customer Service, to drive and implement effective risk processes.
  • Resource Management: Stay organized and ensure internal resources are up-to-date, especially as we add new GEP Partners and update offerings for existing Partners.
  • Operational Support: Collaborate with the Risk Operations team to ensure GEP-specific queue work is handled according to all GEP agreements. Additionally, monitor and address escalations via a dedicated Slack channel.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Experience: 4-7 years of experience in the financial field, risk management, and project management. Bonus points for SQL or data knowledge.
  • Thought Process: An insatiable appetite for operational excellence, knack for structured thinking, ability to spot unusual patterns, and sharp attention to detail.
  • Values: Driven by a strong moral compass, is objective yet compassionate, and does the right thing every time.
  • Discipline: Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects/tasks simultaneously. Is extremely process and policy oriented.
  • Attitude: Goal-oriented, positive, and proactive. Comfortable in a fast-paced and results-oriented work environment. Communicates well with others and embodies creative problem solving.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $98,000 - $122,000 in Denver, CO. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
