About the Role:

We are seeking folks who are passionate about helping small and medium businesses process payroll safely and efficiently. As a member of our Credit Operations team, you will focus on operational accuracy while prioritizing the customer experience, allowing customers to process payroll in a safe and sustainable way that enables growth. You'll play a key role in delivering innovative solutions that balance customer needs and risk management.

About the Team:

The Risk Operations organization is at the core of our business and our team is a key stakeholder in company decisions and operations - The Credit Operations team is a key component in making this possible. We currently process +$50bn of payroll annually, but with your help, we will process more in a safe and sustainable way. We are a small, close, fun group that works hard and laughs a lot. No egos here — we collaborate and help each other out in a positive environment.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Executes daily operations with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Drive key risk metrics with the strategic direction of Gusto’s Credit Operations team.
  • Identifying emerging trends in customer behavior, analyzing customer pain points, and implementing changes to ensure operational excellence and drive key risk metrics.
  • Work cross-functionally to support Gusto’s efforts to de-risk money movement, while making sure our employers keep their employees and contractors paid on-time and on their preferred schedule.
  • Execute projects to continually implement process improvements to reduce loss, improve customer love, and build a sustainable Gusto. 
  • Scaling the Credit Operations team by increasing team efficiency and working cross-functionally with Engineering, Payments, Product and Data Science teams.
  • Foster a culture of engagement and excitement to allow Gusties to feel empowered to put customers first, drive their own initiatives and develop their careers within the organization.
  • When required, provide support for the greater Risk organization in Fraud Operations, Gusto Embedded Payroll and Financial Products.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Experience:  2-3 years of experience in banking, payments, or a similar field. Familiarity with risk assessment or operational workflows is a plus. Experience using SQL is desirable but not required.
  • Attitude: A positive, proactive and solution-oriented mindset. Someone who approaches challenges with curiosity. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with constant change.
  • Communication: Clear and effective communication skills. Ability to break down complex information and communicate confidently with internal teams. 
  • Thought Process: Ability to troubleshoot issues, connect pieces of information, and contribute to solutions using a data-driven approach.
  • Discipline. Able to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively, ensuring accuracy and reliability in daily operations. 
  • Values. Driven by a strong moral compass, is objective yet compassionate, and does the right thing every time.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is $29.81/hr to $36.54 in Denver & most major metro locations, and $37.02/hr to $45.67/hr for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
