Symmetry is the payroll infrastructure for software & payroll platforms powering the paychecks of over 64 million workers each year. Our fully integrated suite of payroll tax APIs and software tools allows companies to solve tax compliance issues and build applications across the entirety of the payroll process. 

About the Role:

As Symmetry’s People Partner, you will develop and implement people strategies and programs to drive business outcomes, employee growth, and high engagement. Symmetry is a fast-paced and dynamic environment, where change and growth are a constant. You will be challenged to develop, refine, and improve processes and practices, skilled at motivating and mentoring others, and adept at building strong relationships with leaders and employees from across the business. Recognized as an HR thought leader, you will simultaneously be integral to setting strategic business and people priorities with a hands-on approach to executing. 

About the Team:

Gusto’s People team is growing and scaling with the company!  As our business scales and becomes more complex, we need to ensure that our strategies for engagement with our employees are positive, values-driven, compliant, and driving business outcomes. This People Partner role is 100% dedicated to the Symmetry team, while integrated into the broader Gusto People Team for resources, support, and partnership with other People team members.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Lead Symmetry to achieve its People objectives, including attracting, hiring and onboarding great talent, developing and retaining Symmies, and achieving our goals around the full stack employee lifecycle.
  • Influence business and talent initiatives that support our short and long-term business goals, including driving practices that enable high performance and operational excellence.
  • Initiate and maintain effective communications with leadership and employees; provide coaching and guidance on matters related to performance management, offer feedback on style and behaviors to improve employee productivity and engagement.
  • Engage in strategic workforce planning by assessing organizational capabilities; identify competency and talent gaps, ensure development of people resources; and build succession plans.
  • Build strong partnerships across the People team roles and functions (Invite, Talent Development, Compensation and Benefits) as well as operate as part of a larger People Partner team to create a consistent employee experience.
  • Identify and translate current and future business needs into a comprehensive People/Talent Plan.
  • Provide organizational development support through interventions such as organization design, development solutions, leadership coaching, and proactive change management.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 7 years+ of HR experience as a People Partner (HR Business Partner) and/or HR Generalist across various industries and scales, or progressively senior roles in the People function with a proven ability to craft, deliver, and execute strategic plans.
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen with the ability to design and align People initiatives to business objectives, translating strategy into actionable plans.
  • Proven experience working with C-level executives and ability to build strong relationships and trust across the organization, powered by exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly and concisely conveying information to employees at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing priorities, demonstrating urgency and adaptability to changing business needs.
  • Significant experience with workforce analytics, using data and reporting to drive strategic decisions.
  • Excellent change management skills with a proven track record of developing and leading organizational change initiatives that deliver measurable business results.
  • Demonstrated agility and ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced, and dynamic environments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle issues ethically and with integrity.

Our cash compensation amount is targeted at $147,000 to $183,000 in Phoenix. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience, and expertise and may vary from the level and amounts listed above. 


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
