Research Analyst Intern

Internship Program Mission:

To attract and engage undergraduate and graduate talent, including students pursuing advanced degrees for specialized roles, by providing meaningful internship opportunities at HAI Group that align with their fields of study and enable them to apply academic knowledge, theory, and skills in a practical workplace environment. 

Internship Overview

HAI Group is seeking a motivated and organized undergraduate or graduate student in economics, statistics, sociology, political science, public policy, urban planning, or related field. As the Research Analyst Intern, you will work closely with the Director of Research to support the Public and Affordable Housing Research Corporation (PAHRC) team on projects related to affordable housing research, communications, market analytics, data visualizations, and database development. Responsibilities include data collection and management, research and analysis, report writing, and collaboration on research implementation. Interns will gain hands-on experience with Excel and statistical tools, learn to communicate findings to diverse audiences, and deepen their understanding of housing policy and market dynamics. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningful research used across the company and industry.  

This is a full-time, paid internship that is required to be on-site in the HAI Group office, located in Cheshire, CT, Monday–Friday. The internship program will run from May 31st– Mid August. 

Essential Functions

• Engage in research prep through data collection and data management to build data sets for analysis, cleaning current data sets to ensure accuracy, and further prep data for research.  
• Implement research projects through data analysis, reviewing literature, and internet research. 
• Communicate research findings to others through written reports, data visualizations, social media campaigns, email communications, and other materials.
• Participate in learning sessions to boost research tools, communication skills, and industry knowledge. 

Job Requirements

Required:

• Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in economics, statistics, sociology, political science, public policy, urban planning, or other related degrees. 
• Prior coursework in statistics and/or research methods. 
• Work on-site in the HAI Group office, located in Cheshire, CT, Monday–Friday
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred:

• An interest in affordable housing policy and the policy process
• Prior work, internship, or coursework experience in data management, analysis, and report writing  
• Knowledge of statistics.  
• Knowledge of statistical programs, like STATA, preferred.
• Knowledge of data visualization programs, like Tableau, a plus.
• Knowledge of GIS mapping programs, like ArcGIS Pro, a plus. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Strong understanding of data management and analysis.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Strong Microsoft Applications skill set using products such as SharePoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint 
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

• Inside climate-controlled office building
• Prolonged sitting and using a PC

Public and Affordable Housing Research Center (PAHRC) conducts independent research to support the efforts of the public and affordable housing industry and its stakeholders.  By compiling data relevant to affordable housing issues from a wide variety of primary and secondary sources and engaging in collaborative research with a number of industry group partners, PAHRC informs the current knowledge about important public and affordable housing questions.  In service to the housing industry, PAHRC makes these data and research available to affordable housing industry members as well as the general public.
