Position Summary: 

The Regional Field Technician IV serves as the senior technical resource for an assigned portfolio of commercial and industrial (C&I) rooftop solar photovoltaic systems throughout the region. This position provides advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, commissioning support, and technical leadership for multiple customer sites, typically ranging from 100 kW to 10 MW.

The Technician IV supports Field Technicians and service partners by resolving complex electrical and equipment issues, improving system reliability, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently. This role works closely with customers, Operations, Engineering, OEMs, and subcontractors to maximize system uptime and customer satisfaction.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as the regional technical expert for commercial rooftop PV systems.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of commercial string inverters, central inverters, combiner boxes, AC/DC electrical systems, monitoring equipment, communications networks, transformers, and associated balance-of-system equipment.
  • Support maintenance activities across multiple commercial customer facilities throughout the assigned region.
  • Respond to technical escalations that cannot be resolved by Field Technicians or subcontractors.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting efforts to restore production while minimizing customer downtime.
  • Diagnose communication failures involving SCADA, DAS, revenue meters, gateways, networking equipment, and remote monitoring platforms.
  • Perform advanced electrical testing using multimeters, insulation resistance testers, IV curve tracers, thermal imaging cameras, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Support commissioning, recommissioning, and equipment replacement projects.
  • Review production data and identify system performance issues requiring corrective action.
  • Mentor and train Field Technicians I–III on troubleshooting methods, safety, and best maintenance practices.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors performing maintenance or repair activities.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, inspection reports, and work orders using HEIS 2.0 or other CMMS platforms.
  • Communicate directly with customer facility representatives regarding maintenance activities, outage status, and repair recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, LOTO, PPE, and company safety standards.
  • Support emergency response and after-hours service calls as required.
  • Travel throughout the assigned region (approximately 60–75%) to support multiple commercial customer sites.

 

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Required

  • 4+ years maintaining commercial and industrial solar PV systems.
  • Extensive experience with rooftop solar installations up to approximately 10 MW.
  • Advanced knowledge of:
  • String inverters (SolarEdge, SMA, Fronius, Sungrow, etc.)
  • Central inverters where applicable
  • Combiner boxes
  • DC collection systems
  • AC switchgear
  • Transformers
  • Revenue metering
  • SCADA and monitoring systems
  • Experience performing advanced electrical diagnostics on energized PV systems.
  • Ability to interpret one-line diagrams, electrical drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Experience leading field crews and mentoring technicians.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Preferred

  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional or PV Commissioning & Maintenance Certification.
  • Journeyman Electrician License.
  • OSHA 30.
  • OEM inverter certifications.
  • Experience supporting distributed generation portfolios across multiple customer locations.

 

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Required:
    • Ability to primarily work in an outdoor environment under varying weather conditions.
    • Ability to safely access and work on commercial rooftop solar installations.
    • Comfortable working at heights while utilizing required fall protection equipment.
    • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing 35 pounds or more.
    • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, climb ladders, and navigate rooftops safely.
    • Ability to work in temperature extremes, including hot, cold, windy, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to wear and properly utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including fall protection, arc-flash PPE, and other site-specific safety equipment.
    • Ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned region (approximately 60–75%) to support multiple customer facilities, including occasional overnight travel.
    • Ability to respond to emergency service calls outside of normal business hours when required.

 

COMPENSATION: $99,800 - $124,800 salary
