This hands-on engineering role will focus on delivering reliable monitoring, automation, and control solutions for large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The successful candidate will have strong experience with Ignition SCADA, industrial communication protocols, control system architecture, and power plant integration.

The Senior SCADA Engineer will work closely with internal engineering teams, project stakeholders, clients, and field personnel to develop technical solutions, troubleshoot complex system issues, ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, and continuously improve SCADA/PPC engineering practices.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with project execution skills and the ability to mentor engineers while delivering high-quality solutions within established project schedules and budgets.

1. SCADA & PPC Engineering

  • Lead the design, development, programming, and implementation of SCADA and PPC solutions for utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects.
  • Configure, program, and commission Ignition SCADA applications, including HMIs, SCADA servers, data historians, and associated control system components.
  • Develop and integrate RTUs, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) Real-Time Automation Controllers (RTACs), PLCs, communication gateways, and other control system devices as required.

  • Integrate plant monitoring and control systems with inverters, meters, protection relays, BESS equipment, and other field devices.
  • Troubleshoot SCADA communications, control logic, network connectivity, and system integration issues; perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Support the development and implementation of engineering standards, reusable design templates, and best practices to improve system reliability and consistency.

2. Testing, Commissioning & Grid Integration

  • Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning plans, inspection procedures, and system validation activities.
  • Lead or support on-site commissioning, functional testing, troubleshooting, and verification of SCADA and PPC systems.
  • Validate communication interfaces, control sequences, telemetry, alarms, data acquisition, and plant control functionality.
  • Support the integration of renewable energy facilities with utility and grid operator requirements.
  • Identify applicable industry codes, technical standards, and site-specific requirements to ensure system designs and implementations meet compliance obligations.
  • Support compliance activities involving Independent System Operators (ISOs), Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), transmission operators, and applicable regional reliability and regulatory entities.
  • Identify design deficiencies and lead engineering modifications to address compliance gaps, improve performance, and resolve commissioning issues.

3. Project Execution & Technical Documentation

  • Lead assigned engineering projects and coordinate available resources to meet technical requirements, project schedules, and budget objectives.
  • Develop engineering work packages, construction work packages, commissioning procedures, operations and maintenance documentation, and project closeout checklists.
  • Monitor project progress, communicate status updates to stakeholders, and identify technical risks, schedule constraints, and potential project issues.
  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, construction, operations, and field service teams to ensure successful system delivery.
  • Conduct technical reviews and presentations for clients, explaining SCADA architecture, PPC functionality, system integration, and Hanwha Energy Integration System (HEIS) solutions.
  • Participate in technical risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies when necessary.

4. Technical Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and technicians on SCADA programming, control system design, troubleshooting, and commissioning practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and improve engineering standards, design methodologies, and quality control processes.
  • Evaluate new technologies, tools, and engineering approaches to improve system performance, maintainability, and operational reliability.
  • Promote consistent engineering documentation, testing practices, and technical quality across assigned projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience developing, programming, configuring, and implementing SCADA applications, with direct experience using Ignition SCADA.
  • Direct experience supporting utility-scale solar PV, BESS, or hybrid renewable energy projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial automation, control system integration, and SCADA network architecture.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols, including Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA, and OPC DA.
  • Experience designing, configuring, or troubleshooting industrial communication networks using Ethernet TCP/IP, fiber optics, RS-232/RS-485 serial communications, and MQTT.
  • Ability to read, interpret, develop, and troubleshoot electrical schematics, control system diagrams, network architecture drawings, and equipment interface documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Understanding of power plant operations and the interaction between plant control systems, grid operators, utilities, and applicable regulatory or reliability requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical assignments, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and deliver engineering work within established project timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to engineering teams, clients, and project stakeholders.
