POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Senior Energy Analytics Analyst who is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and driven to deliver business results. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in deregulated retail electricity and/or wholesale power markets, with a strong understanding of ERCOT and PJM market fundamentals, load forecasting, price formation, risk management, and supply portfolio optimization.

As part of Hanwha Energy USA's Energy Analytics team, this role will support critical commercial, trading, risk management, and operational decision-making through data-driven analysis and forecasting. The successful candidate will develop and maintain analytical models, extract actionable insights from large datasets, and partner closely with stakeholders across trading, origination, risk, supply management, and retail businesses.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical capabilities in SQL, Python, data visualization, and modern AI/LLM technologies with a practical understanding of energy markets. This individual should be comfortable taking ownership of projects from concept through implementation, driving results with minimal supervision, and rolling up their sleeves to solve business problems regardless of scope or complexity.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Energy Analytics, this role requires a self-motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, communicates effectively with both technical and business audiences, and consistently demonstrates accountability, initiative, and attention to detail. This role will be located in Houston Texas, and the ideal candidate will be within commutable distance to the Houston office location. This is an onsite required role.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As part of Hanwha Energy USA’s Analytics team, this position will play a pivotal role in developing innovative solutions for our wholesale analytical needs.
  • Develop and enhance analytical solutions supporting wholesale power, retail energy, risk management, and supply optimization activities.
  • Build, maintain, and improve load, price growth margin forecasting and market intelligence models for ERCOT and PJM markets.
  • Support trading, risk, supply management and marketing teams through scenario analysis, position evaluation, exposure reporting, pricing support and market research.
  • Design and develop scalable data pipelines, datasets, and analytics tools using SQL and Python.
  • Leverage Generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and machine learning techniques to improve business efficiency, automate workflows, and enhance forecasting capabilities.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and visualizations that enable stakeholders to make informed business decisions.
  • Partner with technology, commercial, risk, and operations teams to translate business requirements into analytical solutions.
  • Lead analytics projects from requirements gathering through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve existing processes, data quality, forecasting methodologies, and business workflows.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and assist with critical business needs as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required in Finance, Economics or any other quantitative hard science.
  • 5+ years of industry experience of applying the modelling techniques in successful business applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills with capability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of ERCOT market structure and fundamentals; familiarity with PJM markets preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills coupled with deep analytical capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience supporting retail power and/or wholesale power businesses through load forecasting, price forecasting, market analytics, risk management, and supply portfolio optimization initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills
  • Ability to multitask and work under multiple deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects from inception through successful implementation.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and independent work ethic is essential.
  • Deadline-oriented with an ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Strong decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong knowledge in programming (Python, SQL), visualization tools (Plotly, PowerBI)
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to take ownership beyond defined responsibilities when necessary.
  • Eligible to work in the USA for any employer without sponsorship.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong technical knowledge on time series modelling (GBM, LSTM) and deep learning/generative AI (CNN, VAE, GAN)
  • Thorough understanding of the analytical drivers of the energy industry including weather, consumption patterns, wholesale and retail prices, particularly for ERCOT and PJM markets
  • Experience with ETRM systems, Dayzer, Yes Energy, Hitachi/Endur, Amperon, or similar energy market platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Generative AI, large language models (LLMs), AI-assisted development tools, and practical business applications of AI.
  • Experience developing AI-enabled analytics solutions, agents, copilots, or workflow automation tools.
  • Knowledge of renewable generation, battery storage, natural gas markets, and power asset optimization.
  • An advanced degree, preferably Ph.D, in Engineering, Math, Physics or in a related field of study

 

COMPENSATION: $125,000 - $146,000 salary
