Director of Marketing

Garden Grove, CA

About Harbinger

Harbinger Motors Inc. is a Southern California-based electric vehicle manufacturer on a mission to transform the automotive and transportation industries, bringing to market EVs developed from the ground up to address the needs of the Medium Duty vehicle industry. This broad, and to date poorly addressed, market segment includes class 4 to 7 commercial delivery vehicles, RVs and utility vehicles, among others. Leveraging a foundation of proprietary, in-house developed vehicle technologies, Harbinger's first-of-its-kind EV platform will bring enhancements in vehicle performance, durability and operator comfort. And importantly, Harbinger's vehicles will be priced for zero acquisition premium relative to traditional gas- and diesel-based competitors, removing one of the most tenacious barriers to EV adoption.

Harbinger's team, with operations in Southern California and Michigan, includes industry veterans with expertise in powertrain, battery, chassis and software development, along with leaders in advanced manufacturing, corporate development, operations and finance. Our team members come from leading innovators, both in and out of the automotive industry, including Tesla, Rivian, Canoo, Ford, Anduril, and SpaceX.

Founded in 2021, Harbinger is a venture-backed startup on a rapid growth trajectory, looking for candidates that thrive on tackling complex challenges and who share in our passion to bring clean transportation alternatives to a segment of the market starving for innovation.

Position Overview:

Harbinger is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Marketing as the company’s most senior dedicated lead in marketing and communications. The Director of Marketing for Harbinger must possess a proven track record in leading ground-up brand development and managing both corporate-level and franchise (i.e., dealer) marketing. In addition, the role will involve executing successful tradeshow events/conferences, developing impactful marketing campaigns, and growing a strong online and social media presence. You should have exceptional communication skills and the ability to lead initiatives, collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners, as well as to grow the company’s marketing and communication functions as the business scales. This individual will work as a strategic business partner with both Harbinger’s executive leadership team and the company’s sales and business development teams, working to develop and refine the business’s brand and product strategies, with appropriate data-driven planning, to support Harbinger and its dealers/partners in meeting their growth objectives.

What You’ll Do:

    • Serve as key internal knowledge expert on channel marketing, tailored for both direct customers (national accounts) and franchise dealerships. Collaborate with sales and business development teams to ensure marketing efforts align with dealer needs and market trends.
    • Create marketing strategies that enhance the customer journey from awareness to purchase and retention, ensuring a seamless experience across both direct and dealer channels.
    • Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and sales data - leveraging Harbinger’s expansive dealership network - to refine and optimize marketing strategies. Implement KPIs to track the effectiveness of marketing initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the Head of Corporate Development and the executive management team to ensure that product offerings align with dealer and customer needs as well as market priorities.
  • Social Media, Website and Online Presence:
    • Oversee the company’s digital marketing initiatives, including SEO, social media, email marketing, and website optimization. Lead strategies for driving online traffic and improving conversion rates.
    • Monitor social media trends and industry developments to implement relevant strategies and best practices.
    • Manage the company website to ensure it remains up-to-date, informative, and user-friendly, and work to optimize for SEO.
  • Operational Marketing and Events Support:
    • Provide marketing leadership for highly impactful attendance by Harbinger at events and conferences, collaborating with the business development and sales teams. Lead on developing trade conference booths and collateral to support event attendances.
    • Source and collaborate with external vendors and agencies to execute marketing initiatives and content production. Evaluate vendor performance and negotiate contracts to maximize efficiency and return on investment.
    • Submit purchase orders, prepare budgets, and track spending for the marketing department.

Who You Are:

  • At least 15 years of experience in the automotive or transportation industries, ideally in a company that operates through both direct sales and franchise dealership networks.
  • Strong grasp of the unique dynamics of the commercial automotive and EV marketplaces. You will ideally have a deep understanding of the relevant customer base and key stakeholders across the industry.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
