Privacy Engineer
About Hark
Hark is an artificial intelligence company building advanced, personalized intelligence. One that is proactive, multimodal, and capable of interacting with the world through speech, text, vision, and persistent memory.
We're pairing that intelligence with next-generation hardware to create a universal interface between humans and machines. While today's AI largely operates through chat boxes and decade-old devices, Hark is focused on what comes next: agentic systems that interact naturally with people and the real world.
To get there, we're developing multimodal models and next-generation AI hardware together - designed from the ground up as a single, unified interface for a new era of intelligent systems.
About the Role
We're hiring a Member of Technical Staff (Privacy Engineer) to own privacy infrastructure at Hark. You'll design and build the systems that handle data subject access requests (DSARs), deletion pipelines, de-identification, and consent — and you'll work directly with legal and engineering to translate regulatory requirements into durable technical architecture.
This position is focused on technical execution rather than policy. Your primary responsibilities will involve software development, system architecture, and the management of live production infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design and build DSAR, deletion, and data retention pipelines across Hark's services.
- Architect de-identification and tokenization systems for sensitive data (PII, conversation content).
- Partner with legal and compliance to translate CCPA, GDPR, and other regulatory requirements into technical implementations.
- Embed privacy-by-design principles into Hark's data infrastructure and product development process.
- Own privacy incident response and work cross-functionally to resolve data handling issues.
Requirements
- 4–8 years of software engineering experience with a meaningful focus on privacy infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience building deletion, DSAR, or consent pipelines in production.
- Comfort working at the intersection of engineering and legal/regulatory constraints — you can read a regulation and translate it into an architecture.
- Familiarity with PII tokenization, de-identification, or data vaulting (Skyflow or similar).
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience at a privacy-infra company (Transcend, DataGrail, Securiti, Skyflow, Evervault).
- Background building privacy systems at scale (Meta, Google, Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash).
- Familiarity with synthetic data or de-identification tooling (Gretel, Tonic.ai).
Compensation
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $150,000 - $300,000 annually.
