About Us
Harlem Grown’s mission is to inspire youth to live healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition.
Harlem Grown operates 13 urban agricultural sites featuring 5 soil-based urban farms, 4 school gardens, 3 hydroponic greenhouses, and a mushroom chamber. All of our sites are located between 122 and 152 Streets in Central Harlem, Manhattan.
Since 2021, our programming has served over 10,000 youth in Harlem, we've produced and distributed over 100,000 servings of food, and diverted over 50,000 pounds of food scraps into local compost operations.
Our Programs
Harlem Grown provides youth and community development programs focused on urban farming, wellness, and sustainability through the lens of racial justice, food justice, social justice, and equity. Our youth focused programs include intensive school partnerships, educational farm tours, a summer camp, a Saturday enrichment program, monthly community events, an afterschool program, and our Mobile Teaching Kitchen. Our community development programs open to all ages include wellness workshops, special events, food scrap collection for composting, and fresh produce distribution to participants, volunteers, and neighborhood residents.
Position Summary: Harlem Grown seeks an organized and strategic Development Coordinator to support fundraising efforts through gift processing and acknowledgement, donor data management, and donor qualification. In close collaboration with finance and operations staff, the Coordinator continually streamlines, automates, and documents operational processes, adhering to the highest standards of data integrity. The Coordinator is responsive to leadership and frontline fundraisers needs, ensuring that all activities are supportive of an exceptional donor experience and fundraiser efficacy. This position is full-time, reporting to the Director of Marketing & Operations, and works closely with diverse stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Gift processing & acknowledgement
1. Process all donations accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
2. Provide all donors with timely, accurate gift/tax acknowledgements.
3. In collaboration with finance, develop, document, and continually enhance systems and procedures for gift processing and acknowledgement.
4. Coordinate with the key members of the Development and Finance Team to handle complex gifts (e.g., pledges and restricted gifts) and manage budgets for grants.
5. Other duties as assigned.
CRM management
1. Serve as primary administrator for the Fundraising app in Salesforce, Harlem Grown’s CRM.
2. Develop, document, and continually enhance systems and procedures for Salesforce.
3. Oversee data clean-up processes and projects that enhance data integrity.
4. In collaboration with leadership and frontline fundraisers, continually evolve the CRM ‘playbook’ to ensure that all team members can manage portfolios effectively in Salesforce.
5. Train fundraisers on how to use Salesforce for portfolio management, in accordance with the ‘playbook’.
6. Develop and continually refine reports at the direction of leadership.
7. Maintain expertise in all software platforms used by the department, contributing to continual optimization and integration.
8. Other duties as assigned.
Lead generation
1. Develop, document, and continually enhance systems and procedures for lead generation, including: regular data screenings and analyses, donor segmentation, and donor qualification/research.
2. Conduct routine data screening, analysis, and segmentation in Salesforce.
3. Surface high-potential donors/prospective donors for frontline fundraisers to engage.
4. Conduct/facilitate prospect research.
5. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least two years of nonprofit development and writing experience preferred, ideally with experience in gift processing, database management, and/or lead generation.
- Experience with Salesforce required.
- Experience collaborating with frontline fundraisers preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while working quickly.
- Ability to distill processes into step-by-step procedures.
- Ability to continually refine processes to build efficiency, efficacy, and ease.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Personable, friendly, positive team player able to build relationships with key supporters.
- Motivated, creative and punctual, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Compensation Range: $57,000- 63,000 This position is full time, salaried, and eligible for over time. The full compensation package includes health insurance, 401k match, Paid Time Off, and more.
