The Position
The Vice President, Lead Trading Systems Engineer, is a strategic and hands-on technology leader responsible for the reliability, scalability, and performance of front office platforms. This role supports and enhances systems across research, portfolio implementation, order management and trading. It is a critical role serving the needs of portfolio managers, traders, operations and investment compliance teams.
The engineer will work in a hybrid environment of vended platforms such as, Charles River IMS and FactSet, along with proprietary systems. In this role you will help drive both innovation and operational excellence in a mission-critical environment. The trading desk operates during market open hours for US, Europe, and Asia, requiring high availability and rapid issue resolution.
This role will report into the Head of Data Analytics and Investment Technology within the Investment Technology team and will directly influence trading efficiency, system uptime, and time to market for new investment strategies. Success in this role means having a proactive, hands-on, and collaborative attitude. This individual will need to excel in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment and be proactive in establishing productive relationships with key stakeholders throughout the process. Responsibilities
- Lead the support and escalation efforts for research, order management, portfolio implementation and trading platforms. Rapidly resolve production issues and operational needs, collaborate with stakeholders and engineers on long-term solutions, and ensure platform stability during market hours.
- Facilitate software and workflow enhancements. Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
- Conduct performance analysis, optimize system and process efficiencies and ensure optimal utilization for trading systems. Participate in incident response measures, ensuring prompt support and resolution for critical production issues.
- Act as a bridge between technology and business teams, ensuring clear communication and value delivery. Mentor junior team members and foster cross-functional collaboration.
- Build deep knowledge of front-office and post-trade systems. Drive innovation through emerging technologies, agile practices, and contribute to the strategic roadmap for trading tech.
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of experience in financial services, with a focus on trading systems and order management.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across business and technology teams.
- Experience supporting time-sensitive, mission critical platforms.
- Proficiency in Python, .Net, SQL and cloud-based development.
- Excellent analytical, communication and multitasking skills.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Collaborative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to make complex determinations and utilize critical thinking skills to anticipate stakeholders needs.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while handling multiple priorities concurrently and managing business expectations.
- Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering or related STEM field.
Preferred
- Experience with Charles River Investment Management Systems, PortWare, FactSet, Bloomberg..
- Experience with Middle Office operational platforms and the post-trade lifecycle
- Experience with investment compliance, investment data, and trading systems.

Actual annual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, and other job-related factors. If hired, base pay will be determined on an individualized basis and is only one part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include a discretionary performance bonus and other Harris sponsored benefit programs.
Expected range for this Chicago-based role
$175,000 - $210,000 USD
