The Position
The Data Engineering team at Harris Investments designs, builds, and maintains the firm’s next-generation data platform to support investment research, reporting, and strategic decision-making. As a Data Engineer, you will collaborate across Investment Technology, Middle Office, and Front Office teams to deliver scalable, high-performance data solutions that drive business insights.
This role involves developing and maintaining robust data pipelines, integrating internal systems and third-party vendor data, and ensuring data accuracy, availability, and integrity across the Harris technology ecosystem. You’ll play a key role in shaping data architecture, optimizing workflows, and supporting enterprise-wide analytics. Success in this position requires strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to data quality and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Architect and develop a cloud-based data platform to support analytics, reporting, and operational needs.
- Collaborate with business analysts and quants to design BI dashboards and visualizations using tools like Tableau or Power BI
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including integration patterns and architectural diagrams.
- Contribute to code reviews and enforce high-quality engineering standards.
- Provide production support for business-critical data pipelines and infrastructure, including occasional weeknight and weekend support as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years (combined) experience in a Data Architecture/Engineering role within Trading, Investment Banking, or Asset Management environments.
- Experience in implementation of cloud-based data lake / data warehousing platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
- Proficiency in Python for data manipulation and ETL
- Experience with Data Visualization and BI Tools (Tableau / PowerBI)
- Solid understanding of SQL (T-SQL) and RDBMS (SQL Server)
- Experience with data integration and ETL tools and patterns
- Exposure to financial industry data platforms (e.g., Charles River, FactSet, Bloomberg, Eagle).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with ability to work in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment. Ability to work together with development team members and convey thoughts clearly and concisely in a 24 x 6 environment
- Strong analytical skills while paying attention to details.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
Preferred
- Experience with full systems development lifecycle (SDLC) using Agile/Scrum methodology and Jira
- Experience with source control tools (e.g. SVN, Git), including branching and merging
- Experience with TDD (Test Driven Development) or BDD (Behavior Driven Development) and testing
- Experience in developing within the .Net framework
- DevOps processes, including utilizing Bitbucket, Bamboo and XL Deploy platforms to set up automated development processes for Continuous Integration.
- Understanding of cloud development including the Software as a Service (SaaS) model.

Actual annual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, and other job-related factors. If hired, base pay will be determined on an individualized basis and is only one part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include a discretionary performance bonus and other Harris sponsored benefit programs.
Expected range for this Chicago-based role
$120,000 - $135,000 USD
