2026 Summer Internship - Compliance
Position Summary:
This internship offers meaningful, hands‑on exposure to a best‑in‑class Legal & Compliance program within a federally registered investment adviser. Interns will gain insight into how a modern compliance function supports investment excellence, fiduciary duty, and positive client outcomes, while developing foundational regulatory, analytical, and professional skills. The role also provides the opportunity to contribute directly to priority departmental initiatives, making it an ideal experience for students interested in the intersection of finance, regulation, and organizational integrity.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Support the development of a comprehensive Compliance Program “New Hire Guide” by outlining team structure, escalation pathways, core controls, documentation locations, and best practices for interacting with Compliance.
- Assist in mapping the firm’s ACA compliance architecture by organizing activities by owner, validating task documentation, and confirming rationale and ownership for each responsibility.
- Conduct a thematic review of 10–15 recent SEC enforcement actions - identifying control failures, extracting program implications, assessing internal readiness, and recommending practical enhancements.
- Review the firm’s conflicts inventory and cross‑reference it with ADV disclosures to identify inconsistencies, outdated language, or undocumented practices, and propose improvements for clarity and alignment.
- Evaluate a quarter of compliance committee or board reporting to assess clarity of risk articulation, data usefulness, trend visibility, and alignment with risk priorities, while identifying opportunities to reduce noise and elevate signal.
- Analyze anonymized personal trading surveillance exceptions by categorizing alert types, identifying root causes, and recommending improvements to strengthen monitoring and reduce false positives.
Requirements:
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree with an expected graduation date in 2027; this internship is intended for rising seniors.
- Strong interest in finance, regulation, legal studies, compliance, or related fields.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize information clearly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings in a structured and professional manner.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple tasks or projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Intellectual curiosity, professionalism, and a willingness to engage with complex regulatory concepts.

Actual annual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, and other job-related factors. Full-time base pay will be determined on an individualized basis and is only one part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include a discretionary performance bonus and other Harris sponsored benefit programs.
