Creative Lead
We take play seriously. We’re looking for curious adventurers ready to find their party, fueled by imagination and drive to build what’s never been built before. At Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, you’ll collaborate with passionate teams to reimagine our iconic brands and create experiences that spark joy, connection, and community through the magic of play. This is your chance to shape legendary play that lasts a lifetime.
At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That’s where you come in!
We’re looking for a Creative Lead to join our Digital Ventures team, reporting to the Head of Franchise Development. You’ll guide the creative direction of a slate of video games based on Wizards IP, built with external developers across mobile and PC/console. The role covers a range of creative and management skills: strategy development, project leadership through external partners, incubation and prototyping.
Because this work spans several projects at once, it depends on relationships: earning the trust of partner studios and Wizards teams and leading with integrity on both sides. You’ll bring a clear point of view on the IP and the quality bar and share it in a way partners can build on.
This is a hybrid role requiring three days a week in our Renton, WA office, with occasional travel.
What You’ll Do:
- Set and maintain the creative vision for each game, grounded in what players love about our brands, from early concept through launch.
- Lead and manage projects through multidisciplinary partner teams across game design, narrative, UX, art and audio, with clear feedback, reviews, and approvals.
- Advocate for quality by setting creative intent and world-class standards for each project.
- Incubate and prototype new play experiences with our IP, and champion them inside Wizards, from early concepts and pitches through development.
- Translate franchise direction into materials partners can build from, such as aspirational targets, kickoff guides, guardrails and franchise bibles.
- Help develop strategy for Wizards IP in games, including which opportunities to pursue, which partners to build them with, and the frameworks Wizards uses to evaluate and support them.
What You’ll Bring:
- 5+ years of director-level creative leadership (creative, design, UX, or a similar role) working with internal and external partners to ship titles on mobile or PC/console.
- A developer’s understanding of how games are made, from design methodology to craft, and the hands-on design, narrative or art skills to contribute directly when a project needs it.
- A track record of managing projects through external developers and building strong relationships with them, adapting your direction across studios, cultures, time zones, and matrixed organizations.
- Sharp judgment on authenticity and quality, and the ability to explain them clearly to partners and leaders.
- A working knowledge of game industry trends, market analysis, and emerging technology (including AI).
- Experience turning existing IP into new game concepts and familiarity with Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, or both.
- Comfort moving between blue-sky concepting, incubation and prototyping, strategy and execution.
- A self-directed multi-tasker with strong organizational skills and a healthy relationship with feedback.
Nice to have:
- Experience on the licensor or publisher side of a game partnership.
- Experience with live-service games.
- A love of our fandoms and the communities around them.
- Interest in using and learning AI tools like Claude.
