The Gig: How You’ll Make an Impact

Our Growth Marketing team is looking for a Retail & Marketplace Contractor to help maintain smooth operations across our retail and marketplace channels. The contractor will be working 30 hours per week. This is an initial 6-month contract engagement, with the option to extend based on business needs. 

We need someone with real retail expertise who can step in with a point of view. You’ll own the operational and commercial layer of our retail business: managing partner relationships, leading margin negotiations, and making sure the right things land on your manager’s desk vs. handling them yourself. You operate like a true owner: independently, proactively, and with real accountability for your channels.

You’ll report to the Sr. Director of Growth Marketing and work closely with Operations, Finance, Marketing, and retail partner teams.

This role is remote-friendly but must be based in the U.S. or Canada. Hatch is based in California, so we ask that you’re available during PST/PDT hours.

What You’ll Do

📆 Projects:

  • Own day-to-day account management for retail channels including Target and Walmart, and other retailers. You will serve as the primary point of contact for inbound retailer requests and triaging what requires escalation to your manager vs. what you can handle independently
  • Lead margin negotiations, allowance discussions, and co-op requests with retail partners - advising internally on what’s reasonable and what to push back on
  • Manage retail channels (Babylist, Nordstrom, Ulta, Faire, Meijer, Best Buy, and others) with support from our Ops team
  • Own the flow of information between retail partners and internal teams (ops, supply chain, accounting) so cross-functional workflows stay on track without everything routing through your manager
  • Coordinate chargebacks, compliance requirements, and fulfillment issues with our Ops and Accounting teams, escalating to your manager as needed
  • Maintain and update the channel partner pricing sheet and retail forecast in partnership with Supply Chain
  • Monitor retail listings, pricing, and channel activity across partners - flagging MAP violations, buy box risks, and operational issues proactively

🚀 Wishlist:

  • Build direct relationships with key buyers at priority retail partners - going deeper than day-to-day requests to establish the kind of rapport that earns goodwill and opens doors when it counts.
  • Build a lightweight weekly cadence to keep leadership informed on retail channel health without requiring them to ask
  • Identify opportunities to streamline the operational flow between retail partners and internal teams - reducing the reactive, scattered communication that currently falls through the cracks
  • Support onboarding and setup for new retail partners, including portal access, item setup, and vendor agreement review
  • Develop playbooks for recurring retailer scenarios (promo periods, chargebacks, listing issues) so institutional knowledge doesn’t live in one person’s head

  • Relationship-first communicator - you’re comfortable picking up the phone, building rapport over email, and staying close to buyer contacts the way Target and Walmart expect
  • Expert in the room, not just an executor - you bring a POV to retailer conversations and can advise on what’s worth fighting for vs. letting go
  • Independent operator - you own your workstream, stay organized without daily check-ins, and communicate proactively when something needs attention

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in retail channel management, merchandising, or account management - from the brand side or having been a buyer at a major retailer
  • Direct experience working with Target, Walmart, or Babylist - you know how these retailers operate, what they prioritize, and how to negotiate terms that work for both sides
  • Strong instincts on margin negotiations: allowances, deductions, co-op, promotional terms - you can make the call and explain your reasoning without escalating every decision
  • Experience coordinating across supply chain, finance, and ops teams to keep retail workflows moving
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to ramp quickly and operate independently in a contract capacity
  • Comfort with Excel or Google Sheets for pricing, forecasting, and margin analysis
