POSITION SUMMARY: 

Provide engineering and sales support for business segments assigned by the Director of Sales & Rentals for equipment, systems, and services supplied by Hawthorne Power Systems.  Control of engineering support in the form of development of proposals, cost estimates, submittals and drawings in accordance with HPS procedures and company policies for EPG, Industrial, and Marine business activities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Identifies customer technical requirements by establishing personal rapport with HPS staff, customers and other persons in a position to understand project requirements. Provides product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information to necessary parties.
  2. Prepare submittal documents by studying blueprints, plans, specs and related customer documents; consulting with engineers, contractors, architects, and other professional and technical personnel.
  3. Determines improvements by analyzing cost-benefit ratios of equipment, suppliers, or service applications in customer environment; engineering or proposing changes in equipment, processes, or use of materials or services.
  4. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; advising customer on product, service, or equipment adherence to requirements; advising customer on needed actions.
  5. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; attending Caterpillar training courses; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; & participating in professional societies.
  6. Contributes to sales engineering effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives.
  7. Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.
  8. Calls on electrical engineers to provide technical information on Hawthorne offered products to influence specifications towards Caterpillar.
  9. Research, identify, and recommend potential vendors for products or services.
  10. Attend construction project meetings with clients as required.
  11. Be the principal company resource for natural gas engine technology, combined heat and power applications, and exhaust after treatment systems.
  12. Expand Advance Electrical Services business segment.
  13. Review plans and specifications and interpret specific job requirements and scope of work. Prepare quote worksheets, obtain vendor and shop quotations, and generate proposals with scope of work.
  14. Maintain daily summaries for reporting activities to supervisors and management on assigned projects.
  15. Participate in the regularly scheduled engineering meeting in support of inter-departmental and inter-divisional activities as related to assigned projects within the Engineering Department.
  16. Follow company policies and industry safety rules.
  17. Normal work hours are typically weekdays. Extended work days and weekend activities as required by project and department work load

 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Engineering degree (BA, MS) preferred, and 5+ years recent experience in power generation industry with demonstrated technical training.
  2. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  3. Experience using MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel) and PC skills required.
  4. Working knowledge of AutoCad and MS Project preferred.
  5. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  6. Must have the ability to communicate business and technical information to co-workers, customers and management using both verbal and written media.
  7. Must have a valid Drivers License with clean driving record.

Applicants may be required to pass a written and/or oral examination before being considered for employment in this position.

  3. Lifting: Raises and lowers parts and miscellaneous documentation

  5. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist
  6. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform job functions
  7. Vision: Read computer screens and documentation
  8. Talking: Communication by phone and in person
  9. Sitting: Sits at desk and workspace. Sits for long periods of time.
  10. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise. Wears hearing protection when necessary
  11. Temperature/Weather: Works in an office environment, warehouse, shop, outside with variations of temperature and weather
  12. Exposure: Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.
