The Role:

As a Data Scientist at Hazel Health, you will play a crucial role in our data-driven growth strategy through the effective design, execution, and presentation of impact research studies for our district, school, and payer partners. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop scalable and reproducible impact research studies to help our partners understand the value Hazel Health brings to their students, communities, and members.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to define research questions and hypotheses that test our value propositions and strategic goals.
  • Develop study protocols, including sampling strategies, data collection methods, and outcome measures, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Identify, extract, transform, and maintain relevant data from available systems, while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with data privacy regulations such as HIPAA and FERPA.
  • Apply rigorous statistical techniques to analyze the collected data, including regression analysis, causal inference, time-series analysis.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations that summarize study results, providing actionable insights for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use version control and collaborative tools (e.g., Git, Notebooks) to manage code and data, enabling scalability of research efforts across multiple studies.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized processes and templates that streamline the research workflow for future studies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to present findings, discuss ongoing research, and refine study designs based on feedback.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years hands-on experience developing reproducible and scalable research studies.
  • Proficiency in statistical methods, including regression analysis, hypothesis testing, causal inference, and time-series analysis.
  • Experience with data collection methods, survey design, and managing large datasets, especially within healthcare contexts.
  • Strong skills in Python, R, or another statistical programming language for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Proven ability to create clear, impactful visualizations using tools like Sigma, Tableau, or libraries like Matplotlib and Seaborn in Python.
  • Experience with SQL and working with databases, especially within a healthcare setting, such as handling EHR data or patient records.
  • Proficiency in using tools like Jupyter Notebooks, R Markdown, or similar to ensure analyses are well-documented, reproducible, and scalable.
  • Familiarity with behavioral health conditions, treatment modalities, assessments and the specific challenges in measuring outcomes in this field.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders, including clinicians and executives.
  • Experience working closely with cross-functional teams, including clinicians, operations, and other data professionals.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple research projects simultaneously and ensure timely delivery of results.
  • Preference for experience developing behavioral health protocol research or academic impact research studies and can share published work.
  • Preference for a Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Public Health, Behavioral Health, or a related field.

Total compensation for this role is market competitive, with a base salary range of $125,000 to $150,000, a 401k match, healthcare coverage, paid time off, and a broad range of other benefits and perks. Review our benefits at Hazel Health Benefits.
