Senior Data Science Manager, Growth

New York, New York, United States; San Francisco, California, United States; Seattle, Washington, United States

Headway’s mission is a big one – to build a new mental health care system everyone can access. We’ve built technology that helps people find great therapists with the first software-enabled national network of providers accepting insurance.

1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but the majority of providers don’t accept insurance, making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access by making it easy for therapists to accept insurance and scale their practice.

Headway was founded in 2019. Since then, we’ve grown into a diverse, national network of over 60,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states who run their practice on our software and have served over 1 million patients. We’re a Series D company with over $325m in funding from a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, Forerunner Ventures and Health Care Service Corporation.

We want your time here to be the most meaningful experience of your career. Join us, and help change mental healthcare for the better.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Data Science Manager to lead marketing measurement and top-of-funnel analytics — shaping how patients discover and access care through Headway.

In this role, you’ll lead the team driving growth analytics and marketing science across paid media, SEO, SEM, and emerging partnership channels. You’ll build the measurement frameworks — attribution, incrementality testing, and media mix modeling — that guide investment decisions and improve marketing efficiency.

Beyond core marketing channels, you’ll extend our acquisition and measurement strategy into new growth surfaces. Here, your team will define success metrics, establish data foundations, and quantify early impact to inform where and how we scale.

You’ll combine experimentation, advanced analytics, and predictive modeling to uncover what drives awareness, conversion, and partner growth,  helping Headway connect more patients with the right providers at the right time.

This is a highly cross-functional role partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Design leaders. The ideal candidate pairs technical rigor with empathy for patients and providers, translating data into strategic decisions that improve both access to care and business performance.

This is a unique opportunity to bring analytical strategy, scientific depth, and human-centered insight to a mission that truly matters — expanding access to effective, personalized mental healthcare.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a cross-functional data science team partnering with Marketing and Product to optimize acquisition performance across paid and unpaid channels, improving how we attract and qualify new patients
  • Build and scale frameworks for attribution, incrementality testing, and media mix modeling to inform marketing ROI and budget allocation
  • Deliver high-quality product analytics — diagnose funnel performance, identify leverage points, and surface actionable opportunities for growth.
  • Drive experimentation rigor — uplevel standards for test design, causal inference, and statistical reporting, while mentoring PMs and marketers in experimentation literacy
  • Develop BI and self-serve analytics capabilities that democratize data and empower teams to make informed decisions
  • Translate complex insights into clear, data-driven recommendations that balance growth efficiency with Headway’s mission to expand access to care

What We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or growth analytics roles, with at least 3+ years in people management.
  • Experience partnering across marketing and product teams to optimize acquisition performance, including acquisition in paid and organic channels
  • Hands-on experience building and interpreting MMMs, lift studies, and attribution models, translating results into actionable recommendations for marketing and finance
  • Proven track record leading teams that span BI, product analytics, and applied data science.
  • Strong background in experimentation; able to both set strategy and coach others.
  • Hands-on technical fluency in SQL and Python/R, with experience working with modern data stacks (e.g., Snowflake, dbt, Looker).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills — able to “translate” technical insights into business impact.

Compensation & Benefits:

The expected base pay range for this position is $215,900 - $254,000, based on a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for performance-based variable compensation and an equity grant, depending on the position and level.

We are committed to offering a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package, including robust health and wellness benefits, retirement savings, and meaningful ownership opportunities through equity. Compensation decisions are made holistically, ensuring fairness and alignment with market benchmarks while recognizing individual contributions and potential.
