Senior Data Scientist, Growth
Headway’s mission is a big one – to build a new mental health care system everyone can access. We’ve built technology that helps people find great therapists with the first software-enabled national network of providers accepting insurance.
1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but the majority of providers don’t accept insurance, making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway is building a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access by making it easy for therapists to accept insurance and scale their practice.
Headway was founded in 2019. Since then, we’ve grown into a diverse, national network of over 60,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states who run their practice on our software and have served over 1 million patients. We’re a Series D company with over $325m in funding from a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Spark Capital, Thrive Capital, Forerunner Ventures and Health Care Service Corporation.
We want your time here to be the most meaningful experience of your career. Join us, and help change mental healthcare for the better.
About the Team
Our Growth team’s mission is to help every patient discover Headway. We build the analytics, measurement, and experimentation systems that power marketing performance across paid channels (SEM, paid Social) and unpaid channels (SEO, AEO, organic). Our goal is to combine advanced analytics with a deep understanding of patient behavior to grow the Headway network efficiently and effectively.
About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Data Scientist with a passion for applying data science to quantify and optimize growth - helping us transform how patients discover Headway.
Your mission is to measure, model, and optimize top-of-funnel acquisition performance across channels including SEO, SEM, AEO, paid social, and other organic surfaces. You’ll build and advance the measurement frameworks that guide these investments - spanning attribution, incrementality testing, and media mix modeling - to understand what truly drives efficient growth.
In this role, you’ll combine behavioral data, experimentation, and predictive modeling to quantify marketing impact, improve lead quality, and inform channel strategy. You’ll collaborate closely with Marketing, Product, and Engineering to turn insights into data-driven strategies that accelerate acquisition. This is a unique opportunity to apply scientific rigor to a mission that matters: making mental healthcare more accessible at scale.
What You’ll Do
- Design and execute experiments and causal analyses across top-of-funnel acquisition channels, including A/B, geo, and lift tests.
- Build and maintain measurement frameworks for attribution, incrementality, and media mix modeling to guide marketing investment.
- Partner with Marketing and Product to analyze channel performance, optimize campaigns, and improve lead efficiency and quality.
- Develop predictive models and analytics pipelines to identify high-potential audiences and inform targeting strategy.
- Translate complex analytical findings into actionable insights for marketing, product, and leadership teams.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Data teams to ensure data quality, instrumentation, and measurement reliability.
What We’re Looking For
- Degree in Statistics or a related quantitative field; Masters or PhD preferred
- 6+ years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and experimentation/causal inference techniques
- Experience with marketing measurement, attribution, or predictive modeling (e.g., MMM, incrementality testing, channel optimization)
- Comfort with ambiguous, open-ended research questions and the ability to translate findings into actionable insights
- Excellent communication skills — able to explain complex ideas simply and build trust across teams
- Passion for improving access to mental health care and advancing patient reach through data-driven growth strategies
