Flutter and Dynamics Engineer
At Heart Aerospace we are developing the ES-30, a regional hybrid-electric airplane with a capacity of at least 30 passengers, an electric zero-emission range of 200 km and an extended hybrid range of 400+ km.
We are ramping up the size of our team at Heart’s R&D hub in Los Angeles, which focuses on the advancement of Heart’s hybrid-electric propulsion system and other key technologies.
Your mission
Heart is building a hybrid, battery-electric regional aircraft to decarbonize and democratize aviation. As a Flutter and Dynamics Engineer on the Flight Sciences team, you will develop, analyze, and verify aircraft loads and dynamics of our clean sheet hybrid-electric aircraft.
You will report to the Flight Sciences Director. Your place of work will be at our office located in Los Angeles, California.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support aircraft development via aeroelastic design and analysis.
- Inform design criteria selection by integrating with other engineering disciplines.
- Support trade studies, detailed design efforts as well as ground- and flight testing.
- Develop and improve flutter and dynamics standards, methods, tools, processes, and best practices.
- Collaborate with peers, leadership and other stakeholders to solve complex and multidisciplinary technical problems. Guide technical decisions by balancing risks and opportunities.
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
- Foundation in flutter analyses including aerodynamics and flexible body dynamics.
- Software development experience in Python or Matlab or a similar language.
- Experience correlating analysis results with test data.
- Experience in CAD design tools such as Siemens NX, and ability to set up simulations from mechanical design data.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a startup environment with high accountability expectations.
These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have:
- 2+ years professional experience in aircraft Finite Element Modeling and aeroelasticity, with a solid proficiency in HyperMesh, SimCenter 3D, FEMAP or similar FEA tools and aeroelastic solver tools such as NASTRAN or ZAERO.
- Familiarity with the principles of vibration and environmental qualification testing standards like DO-160G.
- Experience with Composite Structures.
- Experience with software version control, continuous integration and maintenance best practices.
- Experience building optimization pipelines that integrate disparate workflows and tools.
- Working knowledge of transport aircraft systems and operation.
- Ability to handle and maintain Mass Properties datasets.
- Passion for aircraft and electrification of the aviation industry.
