About Hebrew Public

Hebrew Public is a small and growing network of schools operated by Hebrew Public: Charter Schools for Global Citizens. Hebrew Public is a secular organization that welcomes candidates of all backgrounds into a supportive and inclusive community.

Across the network, Hebrew Public schools serve children from all backgrounds and help students become global citizens who are strong problem solvers, aware communicators, and lifelong learners committed to making a positive difference in the world around them. Our schools are models of racial and economic integration, academic excellence, and world language learning.

Why PHP?

As part of Hebrew Public, Philadelphia Hebrew Public teachers and staff have the opportunity to bring that mission to life with students from over 37 zip codes across Philadelphia, primarily Black and Brown students whose brilliance, curiosity, and potential drive our work every day.

PHP is rooted in the belief that all students deserve rigorous academics, strong relationships, and access to a globally minded education that expands what they see as possible for themselves. Every member of our team plays a role in making that vision possible.

For our culture team, that means creating safe, positive, and structured environments where students can build friendships, practice social skills, and experience a sense of belonging. Lunch and recess are important parts of the school day, offering opportunities to reinforce expectations, build relationships, and help students grow socially and emotionally.

You don't need to speak Hebrew to apply, and we strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups to join our community.

The Opportunity

The Culture Assistant plays an essential role in creating a safe, structured, and positive experience for K–8 students during lunch and recess at Philadelphia Hebrew Public.

This full-time position is ideal for someone with experience supervising and leading large groups of school-age children who enjoys engaging with students and creating positive, well-managed environments.

The Culture Assistant provides active supervision during lunch and recess, reinforces schoolwide expectations, encourages positive peer interactions, and helps students navigate everyday social situations. The role requires an understanding of child development, strong group management skills, and the ability to make sound decisions and solve problems independently while knowing when to involve additional school staff.

The ideal candidate is energetic, attentive, patient, and confident managing groups of students across different ages and developmental stages. They bring consistency, good judgment, and a positive approach to helping students feel safe, included, and supported.

Who You Are

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Education preferred.
  • Previous experience working with school-age children in a K–8 school setting strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience independently supervising and leading large groups of children, including maintaining structure, safety, and positive behavior.
  • Strong group management skills, with the ability to establish clear expectations, build positive relationships, and redirect behavior effectively.
  • Sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations, make appropriate decisions independently, and recognize when additional support is needed.
  • Patient, energetic, and attentive, with strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Dependable, flexible, and collaborative, with a willingness to receive direction and feedback.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification strongly preferred.
  • Ability to obtain all required Pennsylvania school employment clearances, including PA State Police Criminal History, PA Child Abuse History, and FBI fingerprint-based background checks.
