Director of Capacitor Production
About Helion
We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.
Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $1 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group as well as new investors SoftBank and Lightspeed to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). We are now operating Polaris, our next prototype on the path to the world's first fusion power plant.
This is a pivotal time to join Helion. You will tackle real-world challenges with a team that prizes urgency, rigor, ownership, and a commitment to delivering hard truths – values essential to achieving what no one has before. Together, we will change the future of energy, because the world can't wait.
What You Will Be Doing
We are hiring a Director of Capacitor Production to lead the multi-year scale-up of Helion’s capacitor manufacturing organization. In this role, you will take an existing, fast-growing production team and expand it to high-volume operations that can support Helion’s transition to generator mass manufacturing. You will play a central role in shaping the production organization and how Helion builds capacitors at scale – owning organizational growth, production strategy, and deep technical alignment with manufacturing and design engineering.
This role is forward-looking and highly influential. You will work closely with senior and executive leadership to plan and execute a multi-year factory ramp, while remaining deeply engaged in the technical details that enable step-change improvements in manufacturability. You will report to the Director of Capacitor Manufacturing and be based onsite at our Everett, WA facility.
You Will
- Lead and scale the capacitor production organization through a period of rapid growth, expanding the team to support a brand new factory and significantly increased production rates
- Own the strategic hiring and organizational plan for capacitor production, including technicians, supervisors, production managers, and supporting roles that aligns with the company’s multi-year roadmap
- Manage and mentor production managers, enabling them to build strong frontline organizations that can execute day-to-day production and enable longer-term scaling
- Partner closely with Manufacturing Engineering to translate equipment capability, process constraints, and factory layouts into realistic production plans and staffing models
- Work with Design Engineering to drive hardware and process changes that improve manufacturability, reliability, and scalability of capacitor bank hardware
- Influence and refine the enterprise-level tools used throughout the factory that monitor and enable safety, delivery, quality and cost metrics
- Serve as a senior leader within the manufacturing organization, collaborating regularly with Supply Chain, Engineering, Facilities, HR, EHS and other functions to enable factory expansion, workforce growth, and sustainable operations
- Build a production organization that is excellent at execution, operational discipline, and problem-solving, while ensuring systems, structure, and leadership depth to address chronic firefighting
- Communicate plans, progress, and risks clearly to senior and executive leadership, influencing decisions that shape Helion’s long-term manufacturing strategy
Required Skills
- 5+ years experience leading large multi-shift operations or in plant management
- Proven ability to lead managers and develop leadership depth within an organization
- Demonstrated success building teams, processes, and organizational structure in fast-growing or early-stage manufacturing operations
- Experience scaling from manual to automation production environments.
- Strong technical depth in manufacturing, with the ability to engage directly in equipment capability, process design, and production tradeoffs
- Experience partnering closely with manufacturing engineering and design engineering to enable high-volume production
- Experience operating in both mature, high-volume manufacturing environments and startup or rapid-growth organizations
- Background in discrete manufacturing
- Experience balancing near-term execution with long-term, multi-year scaling strategy
- Experience standing up new factories or major production expansions
