Clinical Supervisor
Position Summary: The Clinical Supervisor provides clinical supervision, training, and professional development for residents and pre-licensed clinicians in Backpack Health’s Clinical Residency Program. This is a part-time fee for service role that ensures that all residents deliver high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based behavioral health services while gaining the skills and confidence to work independently.
Reporting to the Manager of the Residency Program, the Supervisor plays a key role in promoting clinical excellence, maintaining compliance with state licensure and CARF accreditation standards, and supporting continuity of care. In addition to supervisory and administrative responsibilities, the Supervisor maintains a small active caseload to model best practices, sustain clinical engagement, and ensure program consistency across Backpack Health’s in-person and tele-health environments.
Role Expectations:
- Clinical Supervision: Provide weekly individual and group supervision for assigned residents in accordance with state and accreditation standards. Review clinical documentation, treatment plans, and progress notes for quality and compliance.
- Clinical Service Delivery: Maintain a small active caseload to deliver direct therapy services and demonstrate evidence-based, person-centered care. Use this caseload to model documentation best practices and support quality assurance.
- Training & Professional Development: Facilitate and co-lead orientation sessions, workshops, and ongoing clinical training. Support residents in developing clinical skills, professional identity, and ethical practice
- Documentation Review: Monitor and approve resident clinical documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with Backpack Health and Medicaid standards. Provide constructive, educational feedback.
- Performance Evaluation: Conduct competency-based evaluations of residents, identifying strengths, growth areas, and readiness for independent practice. Develop and track individualized development plans.
- Compliance & Quality Improvement: Ensure supervision logs, training hours, and evaluations are accurate and meet state and CARF requirements. Participate in ongoing quality improvement and audit readiness activities.
- Collaboration & Communication: Partner with the Manager of the Residency Program, Clinical Operations, and Quality & Compliance teams to ensure program consistency, resident support, and alignment with organizational goals.
Position Qualifications:
- Advanced clinical degree (LCSW-C/LCPC) with unrestricted licensure in Maryland, Virginia, or Georgia required and willingness to pursue additional cross licensure in other states.
- Minimum of 4 years of post-master’s clinical experience, including direct service delivery.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience, in virtual healthcare strategy, or systems-level behavioral health transformation.
- Proven success designing and launching digital or tech-enabled clinical initiatives (e.g., clinical content systems, supervision platforms, outcome dashboards).
- Experience overseeing multi-stakeholder projects involving compliance, technology, education, and grant funding.
- Strategic thinker with a systems orientation and the ability to bridge innovation with scalable infrastructure.
- Experience with data-driven performance improvement and use of clinical/operational dashboards.
