Railcar Technician

Purpose: The Railcar Technician is responsible first and foremost with conducting his/her work in a safe manner at all times. Responsibilities include: ensure that all railcars leaving the facility meet AAR, FRA, and industry requirements.
Technician Essential Duties:
- Pre-inspection of all inbound railcars to identify cars to be deadline or repaired to meet regulatory requirements.
- Outbound inspections of all railcars.
- Random auditing of other terminal technician’s inspection.
- Operate forklift (a valid driver’s license required), and rail track mobile as needed.
- Accurately completes inspection sheet and log.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of railcars parts and supply.
- Communicates with terminal technician employees and leads to ensure that the railcars leaving or before loading meet all regulatory requirement.
- Adhere to all corporate policies and standards including but not limited to environmental and regulatory, human resources, facility, equipment, operations and maintenance.
Other Duties:
- Unloading, loading and transferring of bulk materials to and from tankers, railcars and tanks in accordance with company rules and regulations.
- Sampling railcars, update railcar inventory, issuing of work permits.
- Operate the track mobile for the movement or placement of railcars.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Specific Skills:
- Safe working experience.
- Ability to interpret railcar waybills.
- Strong Mechanically reasoning ability.
- The ability to work in team-based environment.
- Attention to detail.
- Good communications skills.
- Good housekeeping of equipment and site
Work Experience:
- Minimum 3 years working as a carman capacity in AAR certified shop or documented carman training.
Education:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including respirator, steel toe boots, safety glasses, hard hat and any other PPE that may be required.
Reporting:
- Reports to the Shipping & Receiving Lead on duty.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with clean motor vehicle record (required for forklift operation and/or operation of motorized equipment).
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including respirator, steel toe boots, safety glasses, hard hat and any other PPE that may be required.
Must be willing to undergo a background check in accordance with local laws and regulations.
