ERP & Systems Engineer II

As a Systems Engineer II you will be responsible for overseeing the administration, maintenance and optimization of the company's ERP systems and enterprise server infrastructure.  In this role you will be expected to be self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for crafting solutions that enable quality delivery. This role involves collaboration with various departments and vendors in ensuring the ERP systems and enterprise infrastructure supports the organization's goals and objectives. Duties include but are not limited to the planning and management of platform enhancements and maintenance including infrastructure, collaboration with others in release management and functional support activities, and participating in an on-call rotation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the multiple SAP instances that comprise the SAP and OpenText environment (sandbox, development, test, and production)
  • Maintain the integrity of the SAP environment via SAP Basis administration including configuring, monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting the SAP technical environment as well as scheduling and executing the SAP transport system.
  • Monitor and manage the SAP background job workload.
  • Manage the overall operations and communication between the application and database layers, including tasks like user management and authorizations.
  • Introduce technical changes into the environment using a structured approach that minimizes risk and achieves high reliability, availability, and performance.
  • Design and implement an optimal configuration to maximize system performance and availability.
  • Ensure that the proper monitoring and notification systems are in place.
  • Strive to discover opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and the demands of responding to support issues 24x7
  • Work with multiple IT vendors / partners
  • Learn and understand company business practices and processes so as to be able to support the same.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of IT tools used for providing customer focused technical support.
  • Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
  • Communicate with senior managers and project stakeholders to contribute feedback, recommendations, risk analysis, status and details of emerging issues.
  • Able to respond to I.T. policy audits and report findings.
  • Adhere to change management policies and procedures.
  • Create documentation and develop training for continued lights-on maintenance and support.
  • Be willing to work on-call and non-standard hours to implement production updates and configuration changes and resolve outages when the needs arise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Critical Skills:

  • Experienced in managing large-scale projects demonstrating strong project management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.  
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and how they interact with each other and upstream systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex business processes and develop effective solutions.
  • Ensuring seamless communication and data exchange between different systems.
  • Understanding the basics of financial accounting for enhancements to Finance Accounting and reporting.
  • Prior experience with SAP ECC6, SAP Portal, Process Integration (PI) and Supplier Relationship Management (SRP), OpenText a plus. .
  • Prior experience with core Basis functions to include:
    • Ability to customize dashboards, workflows, and security control
    • Ability to manage user administration
    • Ability to create accounts, roles and permissions
  • Working knowledge of Information Security Best Practices
  • Experience with Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS and Group Policy
  • Familiarity with virtualization and cloud computing technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center Products
  • Understanding of Application delivery and Load balancing concepts.
  • PowerShell scripting experience.
  • Knowledge of storage/SAN systems
  • Willingness to be on-call and perform after hours work when required

 

Experience and Qualifications:

Required:

  • Two-year college degree or equivalent experience (5-7 years).
  • 2-4 years’ experience managing SAP Basis.
  • Possess strong organizational, team and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Knowledge in Microsoft products, Jira, and Confluence.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Information Technology (Microsoft focused) service management and delivery processes.
  • Four-year college degree.
  • Experience with the Agile requirement gathering and delivery processes.
  • SAP Administration certification.
