Systems Engineer II
The Systems Engineer II position will act as a key contributor to both light-on activities and the project lifecycle. The position has the responsibility and authority to ensure infrastructure projects and support tasks are completed within both the scope of the defined project, identified timelines and SLAs. The Systems Engineer II will participate in the development of a detailed project plan, risk lists, and contingency plans. The person filling this position is responsible for managing complex technical projects and is expected to follow standard practices and procedures to ensure the integrity and quality of infrastructure deliverables. In addition, the Systems Engineer II provides technical support and hands-on support for the server and hosted environments, as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Learn and understand company business practices and processes so as to be able to support the same.
- Continually learn and be able to support current and new business tools and processes.
- Have a strong working knowledge of IT tools used for providing customer-focused technical support
- The ability to understand, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues that have been escalated from the service desk.
- Project resource for new application systems and environments. Assist in the development of project timelines\deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and the demands of responding to support issues 24/7
- To develop, test, and implement simple and complex technical workarounds.
- Ability to effectively hand off workarounds to the service desk when appropriate by providing appropriate training and documentation.
- Technical Coordination on Key Projects
- Technology liaison on strategic projects
- Key interface to PMO for Engineering Portfolio Management
- Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
- May be required to communicate with management and project stakeholders to contribute feedback, risk analysis, status and details of emerging issues.
- Take ownership of issues even when they have been escalated by monitoring the progress of the escalated investigation and resolution. Provide assistance as needed.
- Able to respond to I.T. policy audits and report findings.
- Adhere to change management policies and procedures.
Experience and Qualifications:
Hard skills (technical):
- Required:
- Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in a server applications and hardware support environment.
- Solid background with RedHat Enterprise Linux and/or Windows Server Operating Systems
- Windows and Linux scripting experience / Programming Logic Fundamentals.
- Strong verbal and written skills required
- Proving the ability to troubleshoot system issues
- Willingness to be on-call and perform after-hours work when required
- Escalation point for junior engineers
- Optional:
- VMWare ESX Administration / Support
- Microsoft Hyper-V Administration / Support
- Microsoft System Center Products
- Microsoft and Linux certification is a plus but not required
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
- Cloud computing infrastructure support.
Soft skills:
- Ability to analyze problems and resolve issues
- Strong teamwork and collaboration
- Capable of managing of complex tasks
- Must be both customer service and results oriented
- Clearly communicate updates to the team and staff as appropriate
- Able to write clear, concise technical documentation
