Account Manager, Public Relations (Financial & Professional Services)

Account Managers on our Financial Services and Professional Services team lead communications programs for clients across the financial, consulting, and advisory sectors. They bring a strong understanding of how to elevate brand reputation and thought leadership within complex, credibility-driven industries.

In this role, Account Managers manage multiple client accounts, overseeing communications strategy, media relations, executive visibility, and client service excellence. They serve as trusted advisors to clients — from global consultancies and advisory firms to financial innovators — helping them articulate their value, build trust, and lead meaningful industry conversations.

Account Managers also mentor junior team members, contribute to new business opportunities, and help strengthen Highwire’s position as a leader in Financial Services and Professional Services communications.

Key Responsibilities

Media/Influencer Relations

  • Develop and lead media and thought leadership strategies for Financial and Professional Services clients, including consultancies, financial institutions, and fintechs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business, finance, and professional services media across national, trade, and broadcast outlets.
  • Guide teams in identifying story opportunities that align with client expertise, industry trends, and breaking news cycles.
  • Leverage social media and digital channels to amplify thought leadership and executive visibility.
  • Demonstrate experience measuring the ROI and impact of media and influencer engagement programs.
  • Identify opportunities for contributed content, bylined articles, panels, podcasts, and speaking engagements.

Client Service/Management

  • Serve as the day-to-day client contact, managing communications programs from strategy through execution.
  • Develop integrated communications plans that drive brand visibility, credibility, and business influence for professional services organizations.
  • Set and manage goals around thought leadership, media coverage, and industry recognition.
  • Provide strategic counsel to senior-level clients, demonstrating an understanding of both communications and business strategy.
  • Oversee budgets, staffing, and project management to ensure seamless delivery of results.
  • Anticipate client needs and manage through challenges or high-pressure situations with confidence and poise.
  • Identify opportunities to expand account relationships and support new business growth.

Writing Proficiencies

  • Craft and oversee development of press materials, bylined content, speaking submissions, and executive messaging documents.
  • Create and edit thought leadership pieces that translate complex financial, legal, or consulting topics into compelling and accessible narratives.
  • Produce persuasive, tailored pitches that secure top-tier business, financial, and trade media placements.
  • Review team writing to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with client voice and objectives.
  • Maintain professional, articulate, and proactive client communication.

Agency Operations

  • Manage 2+ direct reports, establishing goals, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing team culture that reflects Highwire’s values.
  • Contribute to new business development by researching prospects, preparing materials, and presenting in pitches.
  • Represent Highwire at networking and industry events in the financial and professional services sectors.
  • Lead by example with professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm.
  • Contribute to Highwire’s thought leadership efforts, including blog posts, webinars, and social engagement.

Self Development

  • Partner with senior leadership to establish and track quarterly development goals.
  • Take initiative to identify growth areas and pursue learning opportunities.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends across financial services, consulting, fintech, and reputation management.
  • Proactively drive projects forward, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with internal and client teams.
  • Participate in professional development and industry events to enhance knowledge and network connections.

Success Factors

  • 5+ years of PR, communications, or marketing experience in an agency environment (required)
  • Experience working with Financial or Professional Services clients (required) — such as consulting firms, financial institutions, fintechs, or legal services organizations
  • Deep understanding of professional services communications, including thought leadership, executive positioning, and reputation management
  • Strong relationships with top-tier business, financial, and trade media
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to distill complex topics into engaging narratives
  • Proven ability to develop and execute integrated communications programs that drive measurable results
  • Experience managing multiple client accounts, budgets, and teams
  • Track record of mentoring and developing junior team members
  • Strategic, confident communicator who can build trusted relationships with senior executives
  • Collaborative, proactive, and passionate about helping professional services brands make an impact

 

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000, with the final offer based on a combination of factors, including education, relevant experience, skills, prior training, internal equity, and local geographic market data. Location & Work Environment

Highwire offers both remote and hybrid work options, depending on where you live.

Hybrid: Candidates located within commuting distance of our New York, NY or San Francisco, CA offices follow a hybrid schedule, with two in-office days per week.
