Safety Manager

The Safety Manager (SM) is responsible for leading workplace safety initiatives across Hillpointe's apartment communities, construction projects, operational facilities, and office environments. This position focuses on reducing workplace injuries, mitigating operational risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting fire and life safety programs. The Safety Manager serves as a regional resource for incident response, safety training, inspections, compliance oversight, and risk reduction efforts.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Workers' Compensation & Injury Prevention
    • Analyze injury trends and workers' compensation data to identify opportunities for risk reduction.
    • Develop and implement injury prevention programs targeting high-frequency loss exposures.
    • Conduct scheduled safety inspections at apartment communities, operational facilities, and construction sites.
    • Provide coaching and training on personal protective equipment (PPE), safe work practices, ergonomics, ladder safety, and hazard recognition.
    • Assist Human Resources with injury reporting, incident documentation, corrective actions, and prevention strategies.
  • Incident Management & Documentation
    • Investigate workplace injuries, general liability incidents, property damage claims, and operational safety concerns.
    • Conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective action recommendations.
    • Maintain accurate incident, inspection, and safety documentation.
    • Submit reports and track corrective actions through completion.
  • OSHA Compliance & Safety Training
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and Hillpointe safety standards.
    • Monitor regulatory updates and implement necessary operational changes.
    • Conduct site audits and safety reviews based on operational risk levels.
    • Deliver OSHA-related training, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
    • Verify required safety documentation is maintained and accessible at all locations.
  •  Fire Safety & Emergency Response
    • Respond to fire-related incidents, emergencies, and catastrophic events within assigned regions.
    • Assist with post-incident investigations and operational assessments.
    • Support annual fire inspections, quarterly fire system reviews, and corrective action follow-up.
    • Coordinate with Fire Safety personnel, operations leadership, and emergency responders during incident response activities.
    • Promote emergency preparedness and operational readiness initiatives.
  • Safety Inspections & Risk Management
    • Perform comprehensive safety and risk assessments at operational and construction sites.
    • Verify contractor and subcontractor compliance with Hillpointe safety requirements.
    • Ensure emergency equipment, safety resources, and required postings remain current and accessible.
    • Develop corrective action plans and monitor completion.
    • Promote a culture of safety accountability and continuous improvement throughout assigned regions.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum five (5) years of safety management experience within construction, property management, multifamily housing, or related industries.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety programs, incident investigations, and risk management principles.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, compliance reviews, and training programs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, report writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting operations across assigned regions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and electronic incident reporting systems.
  • Certifications:
    • OSHA 10 Certification
    • Required Within 60 Days of Employment
      • Basic NFPA Fire Safety Certification or equivalent approved fire safety training.
    • Preferred Certifications
      • OSHA 30 Certification
      • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)NFPA Certifications
      • First Aid / CPR Certification
      • Incident Command System (ICS) Training

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Regional travel within assigned territory.
  • Ability to respond to:
    • Workplace safety incidents
    • Fire-related emergencies
    • Catastrophic events
    • Regulatory inspections and investigations
    • Operational emergencies requiring Risk Management support
