About the Role:

We’re looking for a Director of Industrial Design with an outstanding design portfolio to join our Industrial and Packaging Design Team. You are a surfacing and materials design expert passionate about designing next-generation products and services that improve people’s lives. You are comfortable tackling all aspects of the design process, from user research to design detailing and delivery. You are by nature, a conceptual thinker, always iterating and prototyping to learn. You are comfortable helping teams come together to deliver amazing experiences – and as such, you are extremely comfortable socializing, initiating and driving the processes, collaborations, negotiations and delivery these experiences require with an open, humble and collaborative attitude – focused on helping everyone reach incredible outcomes. 

You have extensive expertise in Industrial Design, prototyping, manufacturing, strategic thinking,  and project management to ensure the delivery of high-quality printed materials that align with our brand standards. You are a player-coach whose primary objective is to unblock situations so you and your small team can get on with the work and turn ideas into realities. Your day-to-day creative influence translates the executive design vision into the team's work. When not managing, you are hands-on, designing with the highly skilled team and attracting, inspiring, and developing high-performing contributors.

You Will:

Leadership and Strategy: 

  • Work closely with the design team, creating concepts, visualizing, and delivering design solutions with finely implemented details.
  • Create, communicate, and implement a vision and strategy for our consumables and containers with cross-functional teams, aligning it with organizational goals and industry best practices.
  • Provide visionary leadership to the industrial and packaging team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Connect, inform, propose ideas, and collaborate regularly with the Head of Industrial and Packaging Design on creative direction, strategy, and future initiatives.

Team: 

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of industrial designers.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Attract, interview, and hire to support the team and the business. 

Project Coordination:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including our fulfillment, sourcing and distribution teams, and product development teams, to understand product requirements and deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with external agencies and partners to execute creative and effective design solutions.

Process Optimization:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and implement best practices. 
  • Oversee the entire industrial design lifecycle, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Quality Assurance:

  • Establish and enforce quality control measures to guarantee all design materials' accuracy, consistency, and excellence.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.

Vendor Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and ensure adherence to quality and delivery standards.
  • Help evaluate and select new vendors as needed, staying informed about industry trends and emerging technologies.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial design or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • 10+ years of industrial design experience with bringing multiple products to the market. 
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within print packaging or related industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing technologies, industrial design principles, and industry trends.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and technologies. CAD software of choice (Solidworks, PTC Creo..), Keyshot (or other 3D visualization tool)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong portfolio of cutting-edge design with strong visual acuity and formal literacy, that proves not only solid design skills but also forward-thinking.
  • Ideal candidate understands the latest technologies and manufacturing processes and how to implement them best and has a proven understanding of engineering and sustainability.
  • Well-versed in user-centered design methods, testing, and techniques.
  • Willingness to take direction and learn from others.
  • Enjoys an autonomous working style and believes in collaboration in a multi-disciplinary design environment.

Outlined below is a reasonable estimate of H&H’s compensation range for this role for US-based candidates. If you're based outside of the US, your recruiter will be able to provide you with an estimated salary range for your location.

The actual amount will take into account a range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and location. H&H also offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package that may include an equity grant.

An estimate of the current salary range is

$200,000 - $230,000 USD
