Title: Senior Data Engineer

Location: Austin, TX / Dallas, TX 

Reporting To: Sr. Manager, Data Engineering and BI Engineering

Work Environment: Hybrid (2-3 Days/week in the office)

About You:

You're a technical expert in the data space who questions the status quo, thrives on tackling complex data challenges, and uses challenges as an opportunity to drive innovative solutions across domains. You demonstrate a track record of creating significant impact by leading projects to improve data quality and optimization with the superior ability to independently translate business needs into clearly aligned project requirements, technical designs, and reliable project outcomes. You focus on the big picture and demonstrate good judgement, while making technical trade-offs between short-term and long-term solutions. You are an exceptional communicator who fosters a collaborative environment, and inspires and mentors' junior engineers.

What You'll Do:

  • Strategize and iterate on the design of our database architecture, focusing on accuracy, scalability, reliability, usability, performance, and cost efficiency 
  • Lead the design and implementation of robust and resilient data pipelines from a diverse set of source data by collaborating with product, engineering, and business stakeholders 
  • Mentor data team members by providing technical guidance and championing engineering best practices, security protocols, optimized performance, and data warehouse design 
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure quality data in source systems and foster a culture of data excellence 

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or technical related field
  • 6+ years industry experience, including 3+ years in a senior Data Engineering role architecting and implementing large-scale enterprise data solutions
  • Expertise in SQL and strong proficiency in at least one major development language (Python or JavaScript preferred) 
  • Competent understanding and application of domain driven database design principles  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present complex technical ideas in simple terms 
  • Product mindset to understand business needs, continuously align on project outcomes, and implement scalable engineering solutions within committed timelines 
  • Proven track record of solving complex data engineering challenges in multiple companies and many domains, employing innovative or novel solutions 
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) 

Extra bonuses: 

  • Experience with DBT, Airflow, Bigquery 
  • Experience with Salesforce data or actuarial insurance concepts a plus
