About Hologram

Hologram is building the future of IoT connectivity, delivering internet access to millions of connected devices worldwide. We process over 5 billion transactions per month across our global infrastructure—this isn't just another app, it's the invisible backbone powering everything from fleet tracking to smart city infrastructure. We tackle challenges of scale, reliability, and performance that few companies face.

Engineering at Hologram

Data at a scale most never see. Hologram processes over 5 billion transactions per month across a global IoT network. The data infrastructure behind that has to be fast, reliable, and trusted, because when it isn't, the impact is felt everywhere from customer dashboards to autonomous vehicles.

Technical ownership with global impact. The data layer you'll own here isn't internal tooling, it's the infrastructure that teams across Hologram rely on to understand and operate a global IoT network. When you get it right, the impact is felt worldwide.

What Makes a Hologrammer?

We're looking for a data engineer who sees scale as an opportunity, treats reliability as a personal standard, and wants to build and refine the infrastructure that powers how Hologram understands and operates its business.

You'll love working here if you:

Crave genuine technical challenges: Processing billions of records and keeping business-critical systems reliable isn't intimidating to you, it's what gets you out of bed.

Value tenacious ownership of outcomes: You understand why the work matters, take ownership of how it gets done, and follow through until it delivers something meaningful.

Relentlessly pursue growth: Technology evolves rapidly, and so do we. You embrace new challenges, learn quickly, and help others grow alongside you.

Think in systems: You see how your data models and pipeline decisions connect to the products and teams that depend on them, and you build and optimize with that context in mind.

Data Engineer

This role owns the data layer behind Hologram's global IoT network. The infrastructure you build and maintain directly powers how our teams understand performance, serve customers, and make informed decisions at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Database Design & Management: Design, build, and maintain databases that power Hologram's operations, with a focus on simplicity, reliability, and scalability
  • Pipeline Development: Build and maintain ETL pipelines that move and transform data reliably, with monitoring and alerts to catch breakages fast
  • Database Reconstruction & Simplification: Audit existing pipelines and data models, identify complexity, and refactor bad decisions into clean, maintainable solutions — incrementally improving what exists rather than starting from scratch.
  • Data Modeling & Transformation: Own and evolve our dbt models, ensuring data is clean, well-documented, and usable by people outside of engineering
  • Analytics & Reporting: Write expert SQL to surface insights across the business — from customer usage trends to operational performance
  • Business Intelligence: Build and maintain dashboards and reports in Sigma that give internal teams clear visibility into the metrics that matter

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Be the data authority: You’re the one who knows where the data lives, what it means, and how to make it trustworthy across the org
  • Champion simplicity: You believe the best solution is usually the simplest one — and you bring that mindset to every model, query, and pipeline you touch.
  • Enable decisions: You'll make sure the right people have the right information at the right time, turning data into a competitive advantage
  • Work with imperfect systems: You'll meet systems where they are, build a deep understanding of them, and improve them steadily over time
  • Build for reliability: You'll build pipelines that watch themselves, surfacing issues automatically so you can get ahead of problems before they ripple outward

Requirements (Must Haves)

  • 5+ years in a data engineering or analytics engineering role
  • Expert-level SQL, including clean, performant query writing and strong data modeling fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience with dbt for data transformation and modeling, and Python for data processing
  • Experience with a BI tool (Sigma, Looker, Tableau, or similar), including building and maintaining dashboards
  • Experience with Snowflake or a similar columnar data warehouse
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex, legacy environments and improve them over time
  • A track record of prioritizing simplicity and delivering clean, maintainable solutions

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Fivetran or similar data integration tools
  • IoT or connectivity industry experience

Target Salary Range: $180,000 - $220,000

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
