This role follows a 1st shift schedule, working from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with designated days off on Friday and Saturday.


Production Kitchen Supervisor

The Production Kitchen Supervisor (PKS) plays a key leadership role in the growth and success of Home Chef’s Ready to Heat (RTH) business. In this hands-on position, the PKS partners with the RTH project manager to help build and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and production processes. The PKS leads the daily shift-level execution, supporting and supervising a team of production cooks, kitchen associates, and kitchen stewards.

As a team leader, the PKS takes ownership of kitchen operations, ensures team performance through hiring, coaching, and performance reviews, and contributes to building a strong culture centered on food safety, quality, and collaboration. This role requires multitasking, cross-functional coordination, and a strong working knowledge of kitchen tools and technology. The PKS is instrumental in building a safe, high-performing environment where food quality and safety come first.

Detailed Responsibilities

Create Processes and SOPs

This is a unique opportunity to help build something from the ground up. The RTH business is a new and growing segment at Home Chef, and the PKS will play a critical role in shaping its success by developing SOPs and training materials.

  • Collaborate with the RTH project manager and cross-functional teams to build SOPs
  • Observe and improve production processes
  • Document clear and actionable process steps
  • Help hire and train team members on new procedures

Pre-Production Set Up

The PKS ensures each shift starts smoothly and efficiently, setting the tone for the day.

  • Review daily production plans from the Production Kitchen Manager
  • Delegate tasks to the team and ensure staffing is aligned with production goals
  • Set up workstations according to SOPs to ensure optimal efficiency
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for safety or process improvements
  • Lead shift-level safety meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives

Ingredient Prep, Cooking, and Portioning

The PKS oversees the safe and efficient preparation of ingredients and meals, ensuring high-quality standards are consistently met.

  • Monitor cleanliness and safety across work areas
  • Hold team members accountable to quality and productivity goals
  • Provide on-the-floor coaching and motivation
  • Collaborate with the quality team to resolve any issues and escalate when needed
  • Coach team on best practices for counts and data tracking
  • Understand and troubleshoot kitchen production equipment

Promoting and Upholding Employee Safety and Food Safety Procedures

Safety and food quality are foundational to Home Chef’s success, and the PKS is expected to lead by example.

  • Ensure GMP checks are completed at the start of each shift and after breaks
  • Proactively correct GMP violations and reinforce standards
  • Maintain clean and organized workspaces
  • Support daily sanitation walkthroughs and enforce proper sanitation practices
  • Ensure staging and handling of product meets food safety standards
  • Support SQF and other food safety and quality programs
  • Be accountable for safety and injury metrics on their shift

Training, Coaching, and Culture

As a people leader, the PKS plays a vital role in developing talent and maintaining a strong, inclusive team culture.

  • Lead team huddles to align on safety, daily plans, and process changes
  • Motivate and guide team members through regular coaching and feedback
  • Provide real-time training on SOPs and problem-solving techniques
  • Manage team conflicts constructively and escalate when needed
  • Contribute to hiring and promotion decisions for team members
  • Foster a respectful, safety-first, and quality-focused environment
  • Be a visible, approachable, and supportive leader

Post Production

  • Ensure daily production progress is tracked and communicated
  • Work toward mastery of production tracking tools
  • Complete clear and thorough End of Shift reports
  • Provide effective handoffs to the next shift team

This position requires 10% travel. 

Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.

  • General high school degree, or equivalent, (e.g. GED). 
  • Minimum of 2+ years of successful supervisory or leadership experience in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Leadership experience in a high volume kitchen environment
  • Cross-functional experience in 2 more departments (warehouse, production, quality, procurement etc.) preferred
  • Track record of driving KPIs and meeting or exceeding goal required
  • Experience in developing team members through both leading and managing
  • Proficient on using tablets and PC’s
  • Open availability to work weekend shifts 
  • Must be able to lift up to 49 pounds occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must have floor presence and be able to stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours in a cold environment less 40 degrees

Home Chef offers the base salary range as posted below, with the exact offer depending on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, and internal equity. While compensation is within the provided range, it is not typical for offers to be made at the upper end. In addition to base salary, Home Chef provides a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare coverage, 401k match, and paid time off.

Illinois Pay Range

$68,000 - $75,000 USD
