
Operations Superintendent - 1st Shift - Days Off: Friday & Saturday
This role follows a 1st shift schedule, working from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with designated days off on Friday and Saturday.
The Fulfillment Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the company’s facilities or projects. This role involves coordinating and optimizing the performance of staff, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and improving operational efficiencies to meet company objectives. The Operations Superintendent will work closely with other departments to align operations with the overall strategic goals of the organization.
Detailed Responsibilities
Coaching & Development
- Builds strong working relationships with all Shift Managers, Supervisors, and employees and continually strives to help all levels grow and improve in their roles
- Sets clear performance targets for Superintendents and discusses progress against plan on a daily basis
- Ensures Shifts Managers are effectively utilizing all standard tools
- Helps to create a coaching culture by providing both positive and developmental feedback to Shift Managers, Supervisors, and Employees
- Assists all levels within the organization with problem solving issues impacting fulfillment
- Helps develop effective people management skills of Shift Managers, Supervisors and Leads
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
- Empower and train staff to proactively identify improvement opportunities and contribute to a culture of excellence
- As necessary, resolves personnel problems by investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action while treating employees with respect through the process.
Food & Employee Safety
- Ensures all Home Chef GMP’s and operational guidelines are being followed and enforced.
- Follows and adheres to all safety protocols set forth by Home Chef including but not limited to: Lock out/Tag out procedure, instilling and ensuring a safe work environment, housekeeping in all areas, ensuring all employees are follows proper safety guidelines
- Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; ensures adherence to established policies and procedures
- Drives and improvement adherence to safety observations and checks to ensure all management is following guidelines
KPI Management
- Responsible for managing direct labor on a weekly basis, including but not limited to scheduling to meet labor KPIs and making adjustments as needed to ensure 100% order fulfillment
- Provides shift level labor targets to shift managers and provides feedback to shift managers on labor performance and error percentage from previous day
- Owns communication of weekly KPIs to department managers and ensures relevant KPIs are being appropriately communicated to supervisors, leads, and hourlies
- Works closely with the production team to identify areas for improvement in workflow and production processes
- Develops and implements strategies to enhance productivity, reduce cycle times, and increase overall output
- Utilizes data analysis tools and metrics to drive informed decision-making for operational enhancements
- Develops and monitors key performance indicators to measure the success of continuous improvement initiatives
- Identifies and evaluates potential risks and develops contingency plans to mitigate them
Production Planning
- Develop and maintain detailed weekly and daily production schedules based on forecasts, labor availability, inventory levels, and production capacity
- Partner with procurement, WMS, and Shift Managers to make adjustments to the plan, where needed
- Work with production management to develop strategies for increasing capacity and improving workflow.
- Ensure that production schedules align with available capacity and resources.
- Track and analyze production performance metrics, such as output, efficiency, and on-time delivery.
- Prepare regular reports on production status, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Use data to drive continuous improvement initiatives and optimize production processes.
SOPs & Audits
- Partners with Continuous Improvement (CI) team in development of new SOPs and modifications to existing SOPs
- Knows and drives adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production, warehouse, and quality departments
- Supports SOPs audit program as defined and conducted by the CI team
- Owns all plant specific Production SOPs and ensures documents are kept up to date in SOP database
Communication & Leadership

- Drives strong communication across shifts and departments by ensuring huddles and daily communications are completed effectively

- Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with Asst plant manager and Home Chef leadership, across other departments (warehouse, maintenance, FSQA, HR, and procurement), and within production team
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies
General Responsibilities
- Follow the facility GMPs and help enforce them throughout the facility
- Support the efforts of the company to maintain our food safety system (SQF) and quality programs
This position requires 5% travel.
Qualifications

- 3+ years of proven direct supervision and management experience (Food Manufacturing preferred)
- Experience in food manufacturing highly desirable
- Experience with Sanitation and Quality Policies and Procedures highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, build consensus, and facilitate problem-solving and collaboration amongst cross functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes and KPIs within span of control and across departments
