
Tempo Production Supervisor - 2nd Shift
This role follows a 2nd shift schedule, working from 3:30 PM to 12:30 AM, with designated days off on Saturday and Sunday.
The Tempo Production Supervisor is responsible for collaborating with the Ready to Heat (RTH) project manager to create SOPs and processes, and then execute shift-level production plans while supervising an assigned team consisting of production cooks, kitchen associates, and kitchen stewards. The Supervisor manages the performance of individuals on their team, including participating in hiring, providing coaching, delivering feedback, and conducting performance reviews. Supervisors must be able to oversee multiple activities simultaneously and take ownership of their kitchen employees. The Supervisor is responsible for exhibiting a strong working knowledge of all machinery, equipment, and processes, and must be able to perform basic troubleshooting. They are also expected to manage and troubleshoot all technology and tools used in kitchen production while maintaining and leading a food-safe and quality-focused culture.
Detailed Responsibilities
Create Processes and SOPs
The Ready to Heat business is new to Home Chef, and this role will have the opportunity to build and develop processes to make it successful, as well as train people on those defined processes.
- Work with the RTH project manager and cross-functional partners to create SOPs
- Observe processes and identify areas for enhancement
- Write clear descriptions of processes
- Hire and train hourly resources on processes
Pre-Production Set Up
The Tempo Production Supervisor is responsible for arriving prior to the start of production to receive the day’s production plan provided by the Production Kitchen Manager. Specifically, the Supervisor:
- Receives targets from the Production Kitchen Manager and delegates production tasks accordingly
- Sets up each activity following SOPs
- Ensures workstations are properly configured to meet production targets
- Provides feedback to the Continuous Improvement Manager on safety, equipment, or SOP improvements
- Demonstrates leadership during adoption of new processes and identifies ongoing opportunities for efficiency and quality gains
- Leads shift-level safety meetings
Ingredient Prep, Cooking, and Portioning
The Supervisor oversees ingredient cooking, cooling, and transportation. Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring a clean, safe work environment and holding team accountable for safety
- Monitoring team progress to ensure daily production targets are met
- Verifying that production cooks understand expectations for output and quality
- Identifying efficiency opportunities and sharing ideas with the Continuous Improvement team
- Coaching and motivating team members to boost productivity and maintain high standards
- Collaborating with the quality team to resolve food safety or quality issues
- Escalating any potential product shortages to the Production Kitchen Manager and procurement
- Ensuring accurate count tracking and coaching best practices
- Demonstrating and troubleshooting all relevant kitchen equipment
Promoting and Upholding Safety and Food Safety Procedures
Supervisors are expected to champion employee safety and food safety:
- Ensure Leads/FSQA conduct GMP checks at the start of each shift and post-lunch
- Address and correct GMP violations and model proper compliance
- Maintain safe working conditions and reinforce best safety practices
- Keep all work areas clean before and during production
- Ensure surfaces are sanitized between tasks
- Conduct sanitation walkthroughs with FSQA when needed
- Monitor staging of products to ensure food safety
- Support SQF and quality programs
- Contribute to safety performance and minimize injury rates
Training, Coaching, and Culture
Tempo Production Supervisors are expected to spend a significant portion of their time on team development and engagement:
- Lead shift huddles to communicate safety topics, production plans, and SOP changes
- Motivate and coach assigned team members
- Train team on SOPs and provide ongoing coaching
- Guide problem-solving around pace, safety, quality, or activity obstacles
- Manage minor employee conflicts and escalate larger issues as needed
- Provide regular performance feedback and participate in hiring/promotion discussions
- Foster a respectful culture focused on safety and quality
- Build approachability and strong relationships across all levels
Post Production
- Track and communicate production progress
- Work toward mastery of production tracking tools
- Write and share end-of-shift reports
- Communicate all essential updates to incoming shift Supervisors
Travel
This position requires up to 10% travel.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED)
- At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a fast-paced environment
- Leadership experience in a high-volume kitchen preferred
- Cross-functional experience in at least two departments (e.g., warehouse, production, quality, procurement) preferred
- Proven ability to meet or exceed KPIs
- Experience in developing and coaching team members
- Proficient in tablets and PCs
- Open availability for weekend shifts
- Must be able to lift up to 49 pounds occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation
- Must have strong floor presence and ability to stand/walk for 10–12 hours in cold environments below 40°F

Home Chef offers the base salary range as posted below, with the exact offer depending on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, and internal equity. While compensation is within the provided range, it is not typical for offers to be made at the upper end. In addition to base salary, Home Chef provides a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare coverage, 401k match, and paid time off.
