Home Chef is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Attorney to join our legal team on a full-time basis. The Attorney will be a key member of the team, responsible for providing comprehensive legal support on a wide array of contractual matters, ensuring compliance, and strategically mitigating risk as well as leading the . Detailed Responsibilities

Contract review and active management:

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize a diverse range of commercial contracts, including but not limited to vendor agreement, service agreements, consulting agreements, partnership agreements, real estate leases and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). 
  • Ensure all contracts are in full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Proactively identify and analyze potential legal and business risks associated with contractual terms and provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with various departments, including marketing, product, finance, operations, tech, and human resources, to ensure contracts align with business objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and update standard contract templates, clauses, and negotiation playbooks to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Conduct thorough legal research on complex contract law issues and related areas.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on contract-related matters.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives as a legal subject matter expert.
  • Manage and organize contract documentation effectively.

Lead integration of all other legal matters into parent company’s (Kroger) processes; act as ongoing liaison post integration:

  • Partner with the parent company’s legal department and assist in integrating Home Chef’s models and workflows for employment, claims, privacy and litigation into Kroger’s legal function to the highest extent possible. 
  •  Serve as the primary point of contact with and maintain collaboration with the parent company’s legal department post integration. 

Other legal analysis and support 

  • Legal analysis and support as needed or requested 

This position requires regular and full-time attendance and presence in the company’s corporate office (at least 3 days / week), or at other company and/or parent company offices as directed - travel to Kroger office in Cincinnati estimated at 5%.  

Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability and/or other characteristics needed for this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Illinois bar (or willingness to become admitted promptly).
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, with a significant focus on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts.  Understanding of contract law principles, including formation, interpretation, performance, and remedies.  
  • Meaningful exposure to and experience in other areas of law as relevant to the integration work (principally employment, claims, privacy, litigation) preferred.
  • Proven ability to independently manage a high volume of complex matters.
  • Exceptional research, writing, analytical, and communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.   
  • Familiarity with contract management software is a plus.

Home Chef offers the base salary range as posted below, with the exact offer depending on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, and internal equity. While compensation is within the provided range, it is not typical for offers to be made at the upper end. In addition to base salary, Home Chef provides a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare coverage, 401k match, and paid time off.

Illinois Pay Range

$100,000 - $130,000 USD
