Sr Manager, Tempo Continuous Improvement

The Senior Manager of Tempo Continuous Improvement (CI) will lead a team of CI Project Managers focused on process and product improvements for the Tempo brand. Responsibilities include identifying more efficient methods of Prep and Assembly; owning standard rates and active management process; monitoring and actioning against KPIs such as error rate, waste, and meals per hour; and ensuring processes are standardized across sites.

Detailed Responsibilities

Leads the Tempo CI Team:

  • Develop and maintain CI team project roadmap, ensuring direct reports are focused on initiatives that will have the most impact on the business
  • Hold team accountable to meeting project scope and timelines
  • Implement change management methodologies to ensure smooth transitions and sustained improvements
  • Manage performance-- recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary

Identify and implement operational efficiency improvements:

  • Provide hands on training & coaching in lean principles (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S, Standard Work, Line/Cell Design, Single Piece Flow, Material Flow, Visual Management, SMED, TPM, Root Cause Problem Solving, etc.) and tools to eliminate waste in all Tempo operations functions
  • Lead the deployment of the Management System tools and standards
  • Identify and prioritize Capital project requests and coordinate with Engineering team on implementation
  • Ensure team is performing hands-on observations and time studies to gain insight into opportunities from shop floor employees

Collaborate with R&D team for recipe and cook program improvements:

  • Monitor compliance to proper cook programs in order to ensure consistency across sites and work with R&D to troubleshoot and update programs as necessary
  • Provide subject matter expertise on ovens, tilt skillets, and blast chillers
  • Identify opportunities to improve raw material packaging for ease of unboxing and work with Supply Chain to address
  • Attend R&D <> operations collaboration meetings

Monitor and action against key KPI’s such as error rate, food cost/waste, and meals/hr:

  • Establish and maintain a robust system for monitoring and reporting on key improvement metrics
  • Utilize data analytics and performance metrics to drive decision-making processes and measure the impact of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop a sustainable process to regularly collect yield data and update in Admin
  • Closely monitor error rate and work with site teams for improvements within RTH or on boxing lines

This position requires 25-50% travel. 

Qualifications

  • Completion of a four-year degree program
  • Minimum of 3 years of Continuous Improvement experience in a fast-paced environment and a track record of leading by example
  • Experience leading a team preferred
  • Interpersonal skills to work with team members across functions and in both production and corporate environments
  • Analytical proficiency to meet variable needs of the business
  • Ability to think “outside-the-box” 
  • Ability to react on the fly to unforeseen production and planning scenarios as they arise
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in production/operational environments or working directly with those in a production/operational environment
  • Computer proficiency (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, PowerPoint)
  • Strong ability to track details and to keep track of projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Results-oriented attitude; able to multi-task and get things done
  • Willingness to embrace change and adjust quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%

Home Chef offers the base salary range as posted below, with the exact offer depending on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, and internal equity. While compensation is within the provided range, it is not typical for offers to be made at the upper end. In addition to base salary, Home Chef provides a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare coverage, 401k match, and paid time off.

Illinois Pay Range

$120,000 - $130,000 USD
